@AndMatt

Also exempt are photography studios, as well as premises – other than registered pharmacies – providing medical or dental services, audiology services, chiropody, chiropractic, osteopathic, optometry or other medical services including services relating to mental health.

That seems odd, my osteopath and optician have been very hot on masks right through, as you'd expect.

Seems strange to me as well. I suspect a typo.

I wonder if they are already covered as medical providers and the requirement wasn't removed in July? Or they all say you have to anyway. I can't even make an online appointment at my dentist, never mind walk in without a mask on!
GingerAndTheBiscuits · 30/11/2021 14:32

Was at a large indoor event in Scotland over the weekend and I’d estimate less than 1 in 20 wore masks despite it being legal requirement.

Most planned events couldn't happen

Which events aren't happening in all those countries already wearing masks?[/quote]
The capacity of any town centre pub is cut by at least half if you say people must wear a mask unless seated

BritWifeInUSA · 30/11/2021 14:37

@AndMatt

lf they go back to masks unless seated in hospitality venues, you've cancelled Christmas for that industry.

So it’s all about health and stopping the spread unless there is money to be made? This new variant that is supposed to be so dangerous my triple-vaxxed mum has to self-isolate when she flies back to the UK at the end of the week but others can pack themselves into a pub all night “because it’s Christmas, innit?”

No it's about finding a workable balance . "Money" means jobs, education, NHS etc. We can't just stop making money.

PilatesPeach · 30/11/2021 15:34

I am meant to be having a facial in a few weeks - presumably I can take it off for that???

Chessie678 · 30/11/2021 15:46

Money and the economy are the main reason we have the standard of living we do in the UK. In weaker economies people’s life expectancy is very significantly lower. Mask mandates are modelled to cost billions of pounds of economic damage which could otherwise be spent on services which enhance or lengthen lives.

Sometimes changes happen not long after YouGov questions. This is today's:

We have the school Christmas Fayre coming up, Does anybody know if masks will be required for that?

worriedandannoyed · 30/11/2021 15:52

@ILookAtTheFloor

What about tattooists? I'm getting a tattoo on Friday.
Why wouldn't you just wear one anyway!
PilatesPeach · 30/11/2021 15:56

yes at tattooists required

GivingUpOnSleep · 30/11/2021 15:58

@12345user

Isn't it common sense to wear one anywhere indoors in a public setting now? Eating / dining excluded ?

I'm surprised how many people are waiting to be told stuff.

Thank you for some common sense

I'd be amazed if schools run events like that Sad but yes why wouldn't you wear a mas, isn't it shopping?
AuntieMarys · 30/11/2021 16:02

pilates yes!! I've had facials for months!!

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2021 16:03

I would be instantly putting a mask on when entering a school full stop. It's been about 4 years since I did but memories of the crush in the unventilated school hall at First School Christmas Fayres I'd be giving it a swerve this year anyway under the circumstances.

Do people still do those YouGov things? I did them years ago, but never really took them seriously or bothered too much with my answers. If you did enough surveys you got £50 IIRC.
VikingOnTheFridge · 30/11/2021 16:05

@GingerAndTheBiscuits

Thanks for that list. Seems crazy to be excluding hospitality
Not really. It's financial.

My chiropodist and chiropractor have been asking for masks throughout.
Madmog · 30/11/2021 16:11

PrincessNutNuts Our school will be doing a concert before xmas. They actually did a survey of parents asking whether they preferred in or outside. Outside has been chosen and school is actually asking parents to wear masks.

PrincessNutNuts · 30/11/2021 16:43

@AndMatt

I have wondered if it will go ahead.

It's in a school, the event is primarily retail, but it's also food, drink, and carol singing.

I haven't seen any specific guidance for these kinds of events, and the school haven't said anything yet.

I absolute hate masks. But they incontrovertibly help, so I wear them indoors everywhere but home.

If it's not a masked event we won't go. But the singers and the people eating and drinking won't be masked up so we might skip it anyway.

If it is a masked required event I imagine some other people might be put off.

And a lot can change in the next couple of weeks.

Westfacing · 30/11/2021 16:47

Regardless of the law/guidelines, surely you and the tattooist should be masked.

That seems sensible in the current covid climate.
