Can I get a booster at 5 months at a walk in site?

I'm group 6, over 55, just over 5 months and read today that the government are shortening the gap between the 3nd dose and booster to 3 months.

I am very keen to have it as the person I am caring for is going downhill and I really don't want to bring it into the house.

If anyone knows, I would be so grateful (and before I travel 10 miles!).

I've booked a booster on Saturday which is 5months and 2 weeks post second jab.
I hope they let me have it!
It wasn't possible to book via the NHS site as that still allows after 6m but my GP surgery had lots of slots which were bookable by anyone.

@reallyagain I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I only meant my first paragraph as a direct response to your post and my second intended as a general comment as there is now a lot of impatience everywhere. But I can see it doesn't at all look like that Blush

No problem being boosted today 5m after my 2nd dose. Hoorah!

Got turned away from the Reading centre but went to a London one and no problem being vaccinated at 5 months.

So I think it's a case of checking each centre...

I got mine today too at 5.5 months. No discussion, they invited me in and the centre was really empty.

Has anyone heard when walk-in centres as a whole will be applying the new guidance and not insisting on 6 months?

@canadagoose1

I phoned the helpline today (Scotland) as I'm 40+ and 20 weeks since my 2nd dose. I was told they are updating guidance but I would likely be turned away.

It's confusing when they publicise something before the guidelines are updated, the woman on the phone said she'd had loads of calls about it.

Yes, this.

They're CREATING work for people on the helplines and vaccine centre employees who are having to turn people away.

Why have a press conference before the change is ready to go? They're creating unnecessary work and hassle and pissing people off.

It doesn't suggest huge levels of competence.

The sensible thing would be to brief the vaccine centres first and then, when they're ready and clear on what the criteria are, announce it.

I'm in Scotland and my friends and I - all early 40s - have been and got boosters in the last couple of days with no issues, all of us are are under the 6 months cut off too, think mine was 21 weeks after. We did book online but there was loads of availability in our area - next day if you wanted it.

We need a thread where people post where they were able to get walk in vaccinations before 6 months, because I'm definitely willing to travel.

My DD is ill for the second time in a week (i.e. she's off school for the second time in a week with illness - she went back a week ago, and caught something else (not covid) at school in that week and is now ill again) and I just want my booster right now while I'm in a presumably quite narrow window of not actually being sick with something DD's brought home from school.

It's so irritating whilst listening to the bleating on to urging people to come forward for boosters. I know they want more coverage over 50s but surely best if they're not coming forward to let the next lot of us have one

And in predictable fashion the website is falling over. It's now letting me cancel my booster in 2 weeks for one this week but miles away. Shame they didn't just boost me last week at the walk in when they had the chance. Bloody stupid all round in the face of Omicron.

You can book online now. We are booked in next week, just over 5 months since 2nd.

It depends on where you are. They've been doing boosters from three months since last week at least at some sites in London.

People are being very civilised about patiently queueing for over an hour to get one.

Queues here are 4-6 hours for walk-ins because you can't get an appointment for around 4-6 weeks or so when you try and book (it was 3-4 weeks but now they've reduced the time to a booster they can't meet the demand)

In Scotland it’s 22 weeks between 2nd dose and booster. You can make an appointment online.
