Have stinking cold, cancel booster vaccination?

I've got a stinking cold (lots of people I work with do too). Im due my booster vaccination tomorrow. Should I cancel? Ive tried rebooking for a later date but there are no appointments anywhere near where I live. Im really keen to have my booster vaccination (tomorrow is the first date I was eligible), but feel uneasy about having it when healthwise Im not 100%, especially as i was ill after both vaccinations before.

MIL was due hers last week and they wouldn't give it to her because she had a stinking cold, they sent her for a PCR instead! So yes, I would cancel in your shoes.

CloudyStorms · 30/11/2021 06:27

I know someone who was advised against it in case they got side effects at the same time as then they'd feel twice as worse.

Moonopoly · 30/11/2021 06:44

Have you taken a covid test? Both my children had a cold as their symptom

pilates · 30/11/2021 06:48

I would cancel

TulipsGarden · 30/11/2021 06:48

They'll ask if you have any Covid symptoms, so no I wouldn't because you'll be turned away. Can you get to a walk in centre?

ColettesEarrings · 30/11/2021 06:57

Given the current circumstances, I think I wouldn't cancel myself but accept the possibility that I might be turned away. Dose yourself up wirh relevant meds in the meantime and st what happens.

Egghead68 · 30/11/2021 06:59

Cancel

FreakOfNature · 30/11/2021 07:13

Vaccinator here - we generally wouldn't vaccinate you if you have a heavy cold. You could have covid and/or it would make symptoms worse. We have done those with 'a bit of a sniffle' as long as they don't have a cough and a temp (we will take temp to check).

We would reconsider if you have a serious underlying health condition - that decision would be made by whomever is in charge and the pharmacist on duty.

If you're otherwise fit and well I would rearrange or attend a drop in clinic at a later date.

Hope that helps and you feel better soon 😊

Thankyou all, cold still not shifting today, so I will cancel. Dont think its covid as daily lateral flows are negative.

I recently had my booster on top of a cold (negative LFT, no cough or fever) and I felt doubly rubbish for a few days afterwards.

tumpymummy · 30/11/2021 13:29

No other booster appointments this side of Christmas where I live. Work in a school so dont want to leave it too long. Now tempted to go anyway. If I feel rubbish I might as well feel doubly rubbish on top!

Dont have cough or temp, just wooly head, sore throat and bunged up nose.

Google walk ins in your area. Good luck

gamerchick · 30/11/2021 13:33

Husband went for his last week with a bad cold. Kipped all day the next day and then was champion. I joked that it cured him.

eggsandwich · 30/11/2021 13:40

I read that if you have a mild cold its ok to have the booster, but I caught a cold from my dh and ds who had heavy colds mine was quite mild so I went ahead, I felt absolutely awful for 10 days after so much so that I was laid up in bed for a couple of days, so I would re-arrange it.

Awakened22 · 30/11/2021 14:25

I’d delay, for others if not yourself. There’s likely to be vulnerable people in vaccination centres and neither them, nor the staff giving the vaccines, would thank you if they caught your stinking cold. Allow your immune system to concentrate on fighting one thing at a time rather than stressing it further.

Languagethoughts · 30/11/2021 14:43

The right thing to do is cancel. The fact of the matter is that you have Covid symptoms (albeit Covid symptoms that the UK government steadfastly refuses to acknowledge). Not to say that you definitely have Covid, but you have symptoms commonly associated with Covid. You should not be turning up to a vaccination centre with Covid symptoms. There will almost certainly be centres doing walk-ins in your area. If you have a car, you also have the option of travelling a bit further in order to get vaccinated asap once your cold has cleared up.

dollywoodlooksgood · 30/11/2021 14:56

Agree with @Awakened22 - it might be a good idea to delay just as a courtesy to others? They could be vulnerable, or in jobs where if they got a cold, they might have to get a PCR and then isolate until they got the results.
