Changing date of booster?

Booked my booster on Friday as soon as I was eligible, it’s on 31 Dec as that was the earliest date available. Now that they’ve opened up boosters to all adults is it worth trying to see if I can get an earlier date or just leave it? Tbh I don’t mind either way but would be nice to get it done.

Have you any walk ins near you? You could try there and cancel your appointment afterwards once you’ve had it.

I did that this weekend because I didn’t realise we had a walk in near us (didn’t come up as an option when I booked and I had to search specifically). They don’t check if you’ve already got an appointment booked and I’m sure it will be rebooked quickly once you’ve cancelled it.

Depends upon your age really.
If you are in your 40s or younger, you are unlikely to get it much, if any, earlier.
If you are older than that, might be worth seeing how things pan out.

As I see it, the booking site is likely to say something like, you can book after 6 months for all ages, book after 3 months for (initially, going down week by week perhaps) over 60s.

They have updated the booking page to say they are working on it, but it was made very clear yesterday that it would be offered in age order.

Looking at current figures from UK Covid dashboard

People vaccinated (over 18s in the main)

Second dose total - 46,341,057
Booster or third dose total - 17,896,864

That means approx 28 million people are still eligible for booster over the next three months, the majority of them eligible now.

The Guardian this morning reports that the target is 500,000 a day, 3.5 million a week. If that target could be achieved, it would take about 8 weeks to give everyone who wants one a booster.

Where you were in the original pecking order will determine when you are likely to be offered a booster under the new guidelines of 3, rather than 6, months.

My DH had an appointment booked for 19th Dec for booster - but went and got a walk-in appointment yesterday. Had to wait around 30 minutes... he's obviously going to cancel the other appointment now.

I’ll see if there are any walk-ins near me, didn’t think of that! Otherwise I don’t mind waiting.
