Taking chn to school whilst isolating

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 29/11/2021 20:42

I can’t find an answer for this anywhere - we are all currently isolating having tested positive over a few days between us (family of 5 - 2 adults and 3 small chn) the eldest (10) got ill first and his isolation ends three days before mine. His other sibling hasn’t tested positive (yet) on a PCR or LFT. So if that carries on, two out of three could return to school when the eldest isolation ends. (I’m not taking the negative child in this week to be safe). Can I drive them both and not get out of the car? This probably sounds thick I know.

No, you can’t leave the house to take them. The only way would be to get someone to collect them.

HikingforScenery · 29/11/2021 20:45

If you could drop them off at the gate without leaving your car, I’d say yes .

BunsyGirl · 29/11/2021 20:49

I dropped my son at school once his isolation ended (but mine hadn’t). He’s in senior school though so I drive into the car park opposite school and he gets out and walks across the road. My dad offered to collect him but I decided it was less risky for me to drive him rather than expose a 70 year old to Covid.

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 29/11/2021 20:52

I could drop them both at the gate without getting out - I just don’t know if I’m actually allowed to do that. There’s no one to help with them.

@BunsyGirl

And their teachers? Let’s protect your parents but not staff. Lovely

OP- you can’t, you need to find someone else to

AMistakePlusKeleven · 29/11/2021 20:54

When I had to isolate our school staff told me to drive them, not get out of the car and they would see they got into class safely. I would speak to the school and see what they want you to do.

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 29/11/2021 20:55

School are fine with it - I’m a teacher there and they know I’ve been testing the negative one/following the rules for other children.

You'd be wrong. Legally you are not allowed to leave your house during an isolation period. That includes going for a drive (in case you are involved in an accident, breakdown, get pulled over by the police etc).
Watapalava · 29/11/2021 21:02

Op you can legally leave isolation “to perform your legal duties“

Kids attending school is legal duty

You’ll be fine - literally everyone is doing it and the chances of being stopped are zero and if stopped I guarantee no one will care.

There’s been a few threads lately on this and most people have common sense and also agree it’s fine

Don’t ever ask a common sense question in this board tho😂

BunsyGirl · 29/11/2021 21:06

@OnceuponaRainbow18 They had finished their isolation period and were required back at school. How long did you want me to keep them off? 14 days, 20 days, 30?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 29/11/2021 21:08

@BunsyGirl

Well at least til toy can legally take them… which would be a max of 10

BunsyGirl · 29/11/2021 21:20

@OnceuponaRainbow18 so please explain why me driving them in a car is a risk for a teacher. I wasn’t going to reinfect my child with Covid. However, my son could still pass it on to his elderly grandfather. The isolation is set at 10 days but people can sometimes be infectious for far longer. That’s a risk that all of us of working age take where we mix with others returning from isolation periods. Happens all of the time in my office.

BunsyGirl · 29/11/2021 21:29

@OnceuponaRainbow18 my son had already isolated and been away from school
for 10 days so it would be more than a maximum of 10 days. We didn’t get Covid on exactly the same date!

OhPleaseJustLast · 29/11/2021 21:44

OP, you can search any number of posts on here asking exactly the same thing. There’s at least one a week.

Half the responses will be along the lines of : drive them and don’t get out of the car, if you really don’t have any other option.

The other half will advocate you doing anything at all to avoid doing that. Get them an Uber. Live rurally where they don’t have uber or public transport? - (some posters will seriously struggle to believe such places exist) - get your children to walk 5 miles to school along unlit national speed limit country lanes with no pavements. But at all costs DO NOT leave the house to drive them to school because it is ILLEGAL and you MIGHT HAVE AN ACCIDENT and then how would you live with yourself if you gave the paramedic covid? (who of course, will not be wearing any PPE, even though we are in the middle of a pandemic).

You make your own call on what you believe is sensible.

Katie517 · 29/11/2021 21:56

Take them, it’s ridiculous that as an adult you even need to come on here to ask, sorry that sounds harsh but I find it really annoying that people have lost the ability to think critically and use common sense. Chances of you having an accident driving and “infecting” a paramedic are slim to none this is no longer March 2020 can we stop the hysterics at any point soon!?!
