We received DD’s pcr results this morning and she’s positive, she’s 17. She has very mild symptoms and is self isolating in her room. Up until last night I spent all weekend with her, we ate together, she was in my car, we spend a lot of time together.

I work in a nursery and work Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. I phoned the manager to ask if I should come in, she said ‘of course you should’. I know there is no legal requirement for me to self isolate as I’m double jabbed, but I feel I will be putting a lot of people at risk. Finding cover for me wouldn’t be difficult.

I am off for a pcr test shortly.

I’m just wondering what others have experienced with work really.

DS1 and DS2 had it last month. DH and I worked from home, but DD went into school once she'd had her negative PCR. She's missed so much already from lockdowns and isolating back when close contacts had to isolate. She never got it (and neither did DH or I) so I'm glad she didn't miss more school unnecessarily.

The law says household contacts don’t have to isolate if they are double vaccinated or under 18.

HOWEVER the advice from the Government is that, as a close contact, you should get a PCR and:

“As well as getting a PCR test, you should:

limit close contact with other people outside your household, especially in crowded or enclosed spaces – consider taking an LFD test beforehand if you do need to be in close contact with others

wear a face covering in enclosed spaces and where you are unable to maintain social distancing

limit contact with anyone who has an underlying health condition that puts them at higher risk of severe illness if infected with COVID-19 – consider taking an LFD test beforehand if you do need to meet with them

This advice applies while the person in your household with COVID-19 is self-isolating.”

My dd attends a nursery and if she attended yours (which she may, never know) I wouldn't want you to go in.
My eldest dd school teacher had it and she brought it home and the whole family had it after first jab. It's not long is it, to isolate. I wouldn't take the risk.

Tangletester · 30/11/2021 07:06

@DevonsFinest that’s what I thought, I don’t think parents would want me in.

My employers insist on people coming in, but they also didn’t follow wfh when it was the guidance, so.. Hmm

It really angers me.

Wfhquery · 30/11/2021 07:22

My dh had covid recently and none of the rest of us caught it, we only have a small house so he couldn’t properly isolate. I was supposed to go to work but I ended up wfh in the end but that was more to do with logistics of school pick up as dh usually picks up so work said it would be easier just to work from home as I could. Other staff have just gone in when they’ve had household cases. There is no financial help for companies from government anymore when ppl are isolating so someone has to take the financial hit which will either be you or your employer

Marianne1234 · 30/11/2021 08:02

My youngest had it last week. She’s nearly 4 so no isolating here, we just carried on as normal. She has coughed all me, at one point when bed sharing due to high temp she sneezed into my mouth ffs.

No one else has caught it.

It is the weirdest thing.

My colleague’s DH and 2 sons have had covid, she was required to attend work and we’re teachers.

milkysmum · 30/11/2021 08:39

Yes most people are going into work now even if they live with someone who has covid. I have known in the past month people going to work in care homes, schools, university accommodation, shops etc all with someone in their household with covid.

MintyCedric · 30/11/2021 09:49

I worked in a state school until recently and we were expected to follow government guidelines and go in unless symptomatic or positive test.

No one can blame you if you go in and it all goes Pete Tong but I understand your reservations.

I have now left my job to return to a freelance career as I wasn't comfortable with someone else making risk assessments on my behalf.

That said, one of my colleagues had a household member catch it within a couple of days of start of term...quite badly symptomatic and neither she nor anyone else in our department caught it.

Wonder how the parents would feel?
