So refreshing to have a press conference without Latin bluster and waffle. That is it really.

I come away with a clear understanding of what is going to happen with the vaccines going forward.

Booster will now available for all adults over 18, 'No sooner than 3 months from 2nd vaccine'.
Immunosuppressed should get 4th dose 3 months after 3rd dose, not 6 months.

The fourth doses will start being due from Wednesday, depending how quickly people managed to get their third done. Betting we all have to fight again as the computers don’t have it logged correctly.

Was going brilliantly until the football analogy. But generally very clear answers from all three of them.

NotMyCat · 29/11/2021 15:43

Just 8 weeks until my 4th then!

PlinkPlankPlunk · 29/11/2021 15:44

Still no second dose for teenagers? The 12-15 group are really going to be out on a limb Sad

TheDailyCarbunkle · 29/11/2021 15:45

Four vaccines in a single year? Seriously?

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 29/11/2021 15:46

I didn't even know they were doing one!

How did you find out? Just on the news or is there an alert you can sign up to?

Popcornriver · 29/11/2021 15:47

PlinkPlankPlunk

It was said 12 to 15 will be offered a second dose.

It’s only 4 for the very severely immunocompromised. I’m counting down the days to my 4th as will others in the same situation I know.

Was it really? In this press conference? That would be really good news for my anxious DD and her also-anxious friends!

They will be offered a second vaccine after 12 weeks.

I'm really glad you said that too:I've been floored by four infections since September (cev),blood count now bouncing around dangerous levels, and I've felt rough after each jab,so would like to just feel bit crap for a bit (but I know I should be grateful, and I am, especially from we were a year ago) but four feels a lot!!
TheDailyCarbunkle · 29/11/2021 15:55

Fair enough @RachC2021. I don't think I'd be too happy to have the same vaccine administered four times when it's a new vaccine (in comparison to other vaccines such as the MMR) and it's not typical to have the same vaccine multiple times in the same year. I wonder how they're figuring out the health impact of repeated doses?

PlinkPlankPlunk · 29/11/2021 15:56

@Popcornriver yes I see it now - thanks for the heads-up!

I take your point about newly licensed vaccination, but it's terms of administration it's certainly not unusual.

e.g., hep B - 3 doses over 4 months

The schedule for hepatitis B is flexible, but minimal intervals and minimum ages need to be observed: There should be at least 4 weeks between doses 1 and 2, and at least 8 weeks between doses 2 and 3. The minimum interval for the overall series from dose 1 to final dose is 4 months (16 weeks).

WarriorN · 29/11/2021 15:58

Im confused, at the weekend I could book a jab a day earlier than I could last week, but still 6 months since my last (minus 1 day.)

I've just tried to rearrange and all the appts that were there have gone. I've rearranged one day earlier. It was similar for my husband yesterday, one day earlier. Plus had to wait for 5 mins as there's so many people logging on.

Does this mean I can rock up to a vaccine bus and get one now (if they become available, local ones were v good)? As it's almost 5 months since my last.

TheDailyCarbunkle · 29/11/2021 15:59

The Hep B vaccine isn't like the covid vaccine though @saltedcaramel1 so there's no way to extrapolate any knowledge from it in terms of the effect (good or bad) of multiple doses.

WarriorN · 29/11/2021 16:00

And when will this occur?

You can check availability before booking but it's only as much as AM or PM and pm was 3pm latest appt.

NotMyCat · 29/11/2021 16:01

@TheDailyCarbunkle

Yep. Actually 6 as I've had a flu jab and pneumonia one too Plus 64 injections I do myself. It is what it is and I'm glad of the protection!

Was just replying to your point that it's not typical to have the same vaccine multiple times in the same year

Personally, I don't why the mechanism of action (i.e., mRNA template instead of antigenic material) would make a difference in terms of this, but I understand why others would be more cautious

  • I don't see
the80sweregreat · 29/11/2021 16:02

Sky cut this briefing and I was gutted as it was clear and concise and made sense.
JVT is a great orator ( unlike Boris Johnson )

TheDailyCarbunkle · 29/11/2021 16:04

I suppose the point is it's unknown @saltedcaramel1 - the original trials didn't include 3 or 4 doses. It could be absolutely fine, but it seems risky to me to give thousands of people something without knowing what the potential consequences are.

Absolutely! BBC showed the whole thing.

I beleive the reason that there's confidence in safety is because there isn't really a plausible mechaism by which multiple doses of a vaccine could cause cumulative risk of side effects. It's not like a drug where it can build up or remain in the body.

Nevertheless, we have data from other countries (far in excess of a clinical trial) regarding 3rd doses in the general population which is being used to evaluate safety profile

As I said, I understand why someone would be cautious, but for me I don't see an issue
