Booster 5 or 6 months after last dose?

Tidyhousefornow · 28/11/2021 20:59

I just called 119 to enquire about when I can get the booster. The NHS website will only allow me to book 6 months since last dose and it still says this everywhere on the internet.

Woman on the helpline said it changed last Monday to 5 months and I can go to a walk in centre and get my booster.

Anyone any the wiser?

5 months since my 2nd does.

I got mine at a walk in / pop-up today.

But online booking system was only letting me book after 6 months.

bizboz · 28/11/2021 21:05

Online booking system said I could make the booking after 5 months but would only be offered dates that were 6 months after my 2nd jab.

Those of you who got the booster at 5 months, are you in the 40-49 age bracket? I’d like to have mine before Xmas if possible.

megletthesecond · 28/11/2021 21:16

My 5 month deadline was today and the website finally allowed me to book, I'd been testing it for a few days. Booster is 29th Dec.

I'd like a walk in before Xmas if that exists though. I'm 47.

I went with DH to a walk in clinic yesterday. He was 2 weeks short of 6 months but they didn't even ask when we had had our 2nd jabs.

They will be able to tell on their system.

I went for a flu jab today and was offered a covid booster while there. But when they went to register me for it they then said I couldn’t have it because it hasn’t quite been 5 months since dose 2.

Schulte · 28/11/2021 21:33

So when did the advice change to 5 months?

Tidyhousefornow · 28/11/2021 21:36

Woman on 119 helpline said last Monday but it says 6 months on all government guidance online. That's why I'm confused

I had mine at 170 days at Guy's hospital and I'm 43. This was a week ago. I'm in group 6, CV, though.

@Schulte

So when did the advice change to 5 months?
I think some centres have already been exercising discretion and doing them earlier. Guys & St Thomas' in London being the example I know of.
fucketyfuckwit · 28/11/2021 22:14

I'm going to try a walk in this week. My second dose was 5 months ago yesterday.

My job makes me quite high risk to get covid so I would really like it ASAP.

@Schulte where was today (Sunday) those under 40 were turned away for the booster

Schulte · 29/11/2021 07:29

I’m over 40 but only 5.5 months from my second jab. Think I might try my luck at a walk in site.

AndWhatNext · 29/11/2021 08:17

It's confusing as on BBC news now there's someone from jvci who's still saying 6 months for over 40.

@Schulte

I don’t think it has but some centres may be making up their own rules

The gov said a few weeks ago that you could book from 5 months but still shouldn’t have it until 6 months. Hence dh’s booster booked for 29th December. However I think the 6 month advice might change this week.

If they don’t allow you the system should def let you book for a few weeks time.
fucketyfuckwit · 29/11/2021 08:34

It's luck of the draw. I've found a drop in centre that do 40+ from 5 months so I'm off there next week!

It's all down to poor communication from the government. Are we surprised? Wink

RunAwayNow · 29/11/2021 12:46

I have a suspicion it might officially move to 5 months this week - sounds like the booster programme is going to be sped up. Fingers crossed anyway.

Schulte · 29/11/2021 17:29

Yup, announced earlier today. I wonder how quickly it will be put into action!

fucketyfuckwit · 29/11/2021 19:52

It's gone to 3 months which seems such madness!!

Someone in charge is really panicking now!

OvaHere · 29/11/2021 20:06

This is the current guidance. They are "working on" the changes currently. They're not officially in practice yet (although anecdotally it seems some walk in places are being discretionary).
