Dp just tested positive on a lateral flow and has a tight chest and a cough.

We've been very close all weekend so not much point isolating from him now. I think if I'm going to get it I will have caught it by now! I'm planning to stay as much as I can even though I don't legally have to as I'm vaccinated - I think my boss will let me off from doing my office day this week. I did have a positive antibody test so I'm hoping I manage to fight it off pretty quickly if I get it all.

I've ordered a big delivery from Sainsbury's, including lemsip and paracetamol. Is there anything else I should do? I'm feeling pretty well so if there are any bits we might need I'd like to sort them now in case I get sick in a few days.

🤞🏼🤞🏼it's not too hideous.

Is it worth getting some tins of soup etc that you can whack in the microwave? Grapes & tangerines for the moisture/ sweetness; bananas for energy. Vicks and dried thyme for inhalations...

I've not had it but these are things on my emergency list!

Coffee and amaretto, a cosy blanket a movie watch list!

My husband had one night with a really bad blocked nose so decongestants might be useful. Otherwise paracetamol for the aches (if he gets them). DH had no other symptoms but was very bored so maybe some books/films

Mykittensmittens · 28/11/2021 22:42

We are on day 8. When he tested he’d had a weekend with us too. He’d caught it at an event a couple of days before.

But he still segregated as we’d done previously and we’ve been very careful. We are all negative.

It is possible to avoid it if you’re careful. Some will say you won’t get it anyway but being careful for me means I’ve given it my best shot.

Plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Nice snacks, hunker down and "enjoy" the rest.

I think I read that due to the new variant, close contacts now have to isolate even if vaccinated so that might be worth checking.

We had covid last Xmas, it wiped us out but thankfully we just had mild flu symptoms

northernstars · 28/11/2021 23:14

We're getting to the end of it now but Tesco online shopping was a bit crap with limits on lemsip and Halls soothers (one packet only allowed) so stock up from another shop if need be. Having a full bookshelf and tons of stuff recorded helped too as both of us would have easily done too much too soon - new house with a shit ton of work needed.

WingingItSince1973 · 28/11/2021 23:29

I had it in January. Didn't really have anything major. Hardly knew I had it really. Because of that DH felt he didn't need to isolate from me although I stayed upstairs. He shared our bed. He never caught it. Although when he had his vaccine he was really poorly from them and his booster and I didn't have any side affects. Its different for all people. You're doing the right thing stay at home as much as possible and it's good you can but please try not to worry too much. Online food shop and cosy day on sofa. Hope your DH doesn't fare too badly x

Thanks everyone. Our place isn't really big enough to isolate - we only have one bathroom and dp and I have had quite a "Passionate" weekend so I think isolating now would be shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted!

I made sure to add many snacks and Vicks to the Sainsbury's delivery.

Dp is coughing a fair bit and feels tired but no worse than a cold so far.

Might be best if you both get a PCR test done just to confirm and also to ascertain your isolation dates.

Only if suspected omicron variant, which is picked up at initial PCR testing.

I am doing one today, just waiting til half an hour after my cup of tea.

I didn't isolate from DH when I had Covid as we had been away for the weekend and sharing a long car ride home the day before my symptoms started. We also have a small flat so continued to share a bed but I didn't go any nearer than him than needed - sat on a different sofa, didn't share drinks or hug him. He never caught it.

I second the throat soothers. My cough was awful and lasted about 8 weeks. I recommend hot honey and lemon drinks - might be worth getting some honey and lemons in. I also found ice lollies helped numb my throat - although they may not be as appealing a prospect in November as they were for me in August!

I didn't have much energy so we focused on food which was quick and easy to prepare - things like stir fries and spinach and chickpea curry. I would also make sure you have some tins of soup etc. in your cupboards in case you both don't feel up to cooking at any point.

KylieKoKo · 01/12/2021 15:47

I have it too! My main symptom seems to be sleeping for 15 hours a night and coughing. I don't actually feel that bad when I'm awake though. Just a bit fuzzy.

We haven’t had covid but we all (inc local extended family) had the nasty supercold and were wiped out by it. Rice bags were incredibly useful, especially those with vegetables in! Tins of stuff and frozen veg, plenty of milk and bread. Chocolate! Guaifenesin for decongesting, paracetamol for aches. I hate lemsip but I found flu max tablets (or other equivalents) with the same ingredients were really helpful. Honey! I had tea with honey in for about three weeks 😅
