Sorry if this has been asked before.

One of my children tested positive at the beginning of the month. Has been getting negative tests for quite a while now but just tested positive and is Ill. They had no symptoms last time so but this time is really ill. They have had both vaccines too. We are now waiting on a pcr but is this possible?

Why are you testing him? You aren't supposed to do tests for 90 days after a positive result, this is well documented.

It's probably just the after effects of the virus from the first time he had it.

School insist on lateral flow tests and have said they have to be done. As I say they have been clear for the last week and a bit.

When we all had it I was told no lfts or pcrs for 90 days and if u show symptoms to isolate for 10 days. My kids schools do not expect kids to be tested post covid.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/11/2021 17:08

Well, you do risk him testing positive then. It won't be a new infection.

roadwarrior · 28/11/2021 17:34

If he's unwell and previous lateral flow tests were negative, it is possible that he's got it again. You can get it twice. I think the PCR will tell you for sure. Fingers crossed he's just caught that bad cold that's been going around.

NewbieAlert · 28/11/2021 17:54

Could the first result be a false positive?

I don’t think you can be genuinely re-infected that quickly. As others say it could be a hangover of the original illness.

Change123today · 28/11/2021 18:00

Did they get a positive PCR the first time? I had a positive LFT but negative PCR - I was ill guessing just a cold! But we’ve had two sixth form students both tested positive LFT but negative on PCR.

Yes if you test positive most schools and childcare places will not allow you back until you test negative again. This isn’t an infection risk (you can’t infect someone else if you adhere to guidelines) but to protect your child. Otherwise I’m sure plenty of parents would be sending their kids in with long or severe covid.

She tested at the beginning of the month as a precaution as someone she's close with had it and it came back positive but she had no symptoms at all. Now she's burning up and feeling awful.

OP, did she get a positive PCR as well as lat flow at the beginning of the month? Do speak to a doctor about this, explain about the original result and how she's testing positive again now and see what they say.

I don't see how schools can request such a thing when the official advice is not to test again for 90 days? That's such a ridiculous request, most children do not get long Covid and are perfectly fine to go back to school.

Heard about a child getting pims . When a child gets mild covid or no symptoms the body carries on fighting , something like that . It can happen around 3 weeks after covid .

blessedbethechocolate · 28/11/2021 18:58

She has always tested negative on lateral flow but got a positive pcr as her bf had it so she tested too. Now she's had her first positive lateral flow and we are waiting on the pcr.
