Parents watching school plays.. will it still happen?

Earlier in the week DC's primary school sent a newsletter home stating that in a couple weeks they will be going Christmas performances and parents will be invited in to watch. They did however state this could change and it might be filmed instead it covid gets too high in the school. They've had little to no cases - so far. Mainly down to luck I think as covid is quite high in the wider area.

Anyway, do you think it will happen? As much as I would love to see my dc in the play - will be ds's last play at primary and DD's first despite being in year 2. Obviously I would absolutely go if can but the thought go sitting in the hall with loads of other parents is daunting. 4 year groups are doing it together so that's 120 kids and their parents in a rather small school hall! Is a bit mind blowing.

I'm not against it at all. It would be lovely for them but the school have been so strict with covid until now... it's gone from one extreme of being strict to letting hundreds of people in the same room 😅

Not sure what the point of this post is. I feel this weekends news may change plans 🤦‍♀️

Ours is getting filmed again unfortunately.

roses2 · 27/11/2021 20:55

Ours is also being filmed, no parents allowed

As far as I know ours is going ahead they asked for ticket requests yesterday however it's limited numbers ( 2 tickets per child per performance) hopefully it still happens! We've all missed out on so much now

Ours was a nativity for years 1-3 all together and was due to be recorded but they’ve just cancelled it and will be replaced with some sort of year group performance but not a play.

Cacee3029 · 27/11/2021 21:02

I think dc will still be doing the play regardless (unless they decide to stop mixing year groups but not sure if that's likely). It's the possibility of it being filmed though. I really want to see them but I feel hundreds of people in one small hall is a bit much too 🤯 school was originally a small village school with small hall etc - classrooms and facilities have been extended but it is not a massive space! We will see 🤞

Going by the schools track record, they have been pretty strict up until now.

Our school has said it would go ahead with 2
'Showings' and face masks.

The school seems keen to let as much happen as possible which is great

On the plus side, if it gets filmed at least you have that forever. I’ve just been re-watching DS’s performance from last Christmas and it’s so lovely.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/11/2021 21:08

Ours is two adults per child and two showing so I don't think it will be too crowded. I really hope it goes ahead.

That is true, especially because parents can't film them themselves anymore! I have numerous video times of me in school plays in the early 90's. Fml 🤦‍♀️

I just hope the panic over the new variant won't change things. Newsletter was sent before the news about it 😢

Ours is now being filmed instead. At least grandparents will be able to see it now.

Evesgarden · 27/11/2021 21:12

So far our is going ahead - fingers crossed

BuffaloHigh · 27/11/2021 21:13

Ours was cancelled yesterday. The number of staff and children off atm means they don’t have enough time to rehearse it. We’ve had hardly any cases up til now so I suppose it had to hit some time.

Oh nooo. We've had a few cases here but at different times, never more than 1 at a time and not a big outbreak. But then I believe there might of been an outbreak at DC's school in earlier 2020 when covid was said to be a Non issue in the U.K. So many teachers were off with a mysterious respiratory virus they couldn't shift, half the kids were off with covid like symptoms - after a family travelled to and returned back from the Middle East! Makes you wonder! But that's another story!

Our primary school has cancelled the play completely as it involved mixing year groups and two year groups currently have half the kids out with covid.
They will be doing carols on the playground instead.
They have also cancelled the panto trip and other Christmas activities. ☹️

Emmacb82 · 27/11/2021 21:42

I’m really hoping ours will go ahead. We didn’t get to see anything last year and was his first year at school. I know everyone says that a play isn’t important in the grand scheme of things, and I understand, but it’s one of those moments you wait for as a parent.

Bingbong21 · 27/11/2021 21:43

Ours is going ahead but being done outdoors and only one adult per child per performance so a maximum of 90 parents spread out on the school field to watch.

PiperSniper · 27/11/2021 21:45

Not at our primary. Public Health closed us for 10 days last week as so many cases currently Sad
