Due to go to USA 3 weeks from now.

Would you cancel, postpone or go ahead, given the measures reintroduced today and the review due in 3 weeks' time? Will only lose £250 if we cancel this weekend.

From the UK? I honestly wouldn't go. Sorry

DirtyDancing · 27/11/2021 20:46

It entirely depends on the situation & outcomes when looking at the worst case scenarios. What would you do if: guidance changed, was asked to quarantine on return, work commitments, if one got neg test when there & couldn't return etc. only then can you really weigh up if it's worth the 'risk'. Everyone's level of risk is a bit different IMO.

Who knows. They could easily close their borders to us again as omicron appears not to be in USA

SilverGlitterBaubles · 27/11/2021 20:53

Sorry but it's probably a no, given the past restrictions in the USA I would be surprised if they didn't revert again.

dabbydeedoo · 27/11/2021 20:53

I wouldn't. I was just about to book flights to California for January but thank God I held off. I've got a flight to Spain tomorrow and worried enough about that. I don't think I'd book anything more expensive or further away right now.

I'm probably in the best possible situation for a wavering travel situation - solo, no dependents, can WFH, piles of leave to use up if I got stuck somewhere, experienced traveller and used to last minute plan changes - and I'm nervous and uneasy and am on the fence about cancelling. I think if I had to be somewhere in the days following or had someone depending on me, I wouldn't risk it.

Thanks all, you are confirming my thoughts.

Are you prepared to isolate for as long as needed when you come back? For your day 2 test to come back, and/or if you test positive?

If yes, I’d go. I’m only cancelling UK trips at the minute due to the extra isolation. Let’s see if anything else changes.

OxanaVorontsova · 27/11/2021 21:08

Isolation is no problem for us on return. If I'd already paid in full I'd be going, but as I can cancel tomorrow without losing too much money I'm tempted...

Can your flights not be moved closer to the time?

Soybean31 · 27/11/2021 21:10

I wouldn't risk it to be honest. Would you be willing to isolate in your hotel room on arrival, if testing requirements changed? 8 hours on a plane wearing a mask would be enough to put me off anyway!
