Do over 40s have to wait 6 months for booster?

Just that really. Or can you turn up at a walk-in and get the booster after say 5 months? Does anyone have any experience of getting the booster after 5 months?

It's 6 months for everyone I believe. I couldn't book my booster until 6 months had passed (had it this week).

pinkcattydude · 27/11/2021 15:31

You have to wait I went in for my flu jab and thought I’d be cheeky and ask if I could grab my booster while I was there, I’m 4 days and they said I had to wait but could book for 4 days time.

CountingDownTheDays30 · 27/11/2021 15:37

I’ve just had my booster this week. 5 months to the day I had my second jab (I’m 41). Went as a walk in at the end of the day. Booking online was 6 months though.

Scarby9 · 27/11/2021 15:39

I tried doing a walk in at 5 months while taking someone else for their booster, but was told I had to wait for 6 months.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 27/11/2021 15:40

Yep 6 months went for mine today and signs up to say if less than 6 months you’ll be turned away.

PurpleDaisies · 27/11/2021 15:41

Yes, you have to wait. You can book an appointment from five months but you’ll need to be six months after your second jab.

CountingDownTheDays30 · 27/11/2021 15:44

To clarify we waited for the leftovers as they were closing and luckily they had two left!

DrunkenKoala · 27/11/2021 15:46

I think you can book after five months but your appointment will be 6 months after 2nd dose. Was online earlier trying to book and it wouldn’t let me, I had my second dose early July so I’ll try again in a couple of weeks.

MsMartini · 27/11/2021 15:49

I got mine 5 days before the 182 days at a walk in. They implied that was only just OK according to the guidance. I'd book for as early as the system lets you, and then try walk-ins few days before that (then cancel appt). Unless they change the rules because of the new variant.

Pipersouth · 27/11/2021 18:01

I’m a bit confused my doctors sent me a link that I completed - only one date to book so I did but it isn’t over 6 months? The app won’t let me manage my booking but will let me book another? Any one else had this?

manolantern · 27/11/2021 18:09

I'm aged 43 and got the booster last Saturday on day 170. This was at Guy's hospital in London, they are doing them early. However I'm in group 6 and I'd had my second dose on 3rd June. Still well under six months though.

QueenofLouisiana · 27/11/2021 18:11

When I had my booster at a mass vaccination centre, they had signs which gave the latest possible date you could have had your second jab. They were 182 days earlier.

vera16 · 27/11/2021 20:12

Thanks all useful to know. Looks like I'll have to wait it out. The earliest the booking system works give me was15th Dec which I guess is 182 days after my second dose.

Different vaccination centres seem to have different rules on this. I had my booster just over 5 months after my second jab - They were letting anyone over 40 have it after 5 months. This was a pharmacy rather than a mass vaccination centre.

CoronaConfused21 · 27/11/2021 21:36

This was a walk-in service btw - I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to book an early appointment on the main website.

EileenGC · 27/11/2021 21:37

I'm having mine 151 days (just under 5 months) after my second dose. But I'm not in England.

TokyoSushi · 27/11/2021 21:37

It seems from the press conference today that they might be going to make it a bit shorter, but no details yet.

LazySleepy · 27/11/2021 21:39

I got mine at 5 months at a walk in

ImAVaccinator · 27/11/2021 21:46

The current rules (as of the last day I was in work they do change often) make it an absolute minimum of 24 weeks after your second before you can have your booster. People with compromised immune systems (specific list of conditions or medications) may have a 3rd primary dose a minimum of 8 weeks after their second then booster 24 weeks after that.

IT would be amazing to get everybody in ASAP whatever age for a booster but places like my little MVC struggle as we don't have half the space/parking/imms staff we had in the first centre and I know we are not alone in not having capacity to speed through like first time, it's frustrating!

waitingpatientlyforspring · 27/11/2021 22:02

I've booked mine online and the earliest appointment it offered me was 6 months after my 2nd dose. I booked it about 3 weeks in advance.

Holothane · 27/11/2021 22:04

6 months I’m 55 going on Monday.

WorriedMillie · 27/11/2021 22:04

Friend is a vaccinator, at her hub, they won’t allow boosters pre 6 months, walk in or otherwise. But echo that bookings for 6 months onwards are allowed to be made from 5 months since second jab
