Is this too delayed to be side effects from vaccine?

My 13 year old DD had her vaccine at school on Thursday, middle of the day.

Last night (Friday) Ashe started to feel unwell - sore throat, headache, pressure in ears, raised temp, just generally feeling grotty.

She's convinced it's side effects from the jab, but isn't over 24 hours from jab pretty late for the side effects to be kicking in?!

I think it probably is, that is how it went for the 3 in my household.

Hydrate · 27/11/2021 05:53

I did get a sore arm the same day, but it was much worse the next day.

GivingUpOnSleep · 27/11/2021 05:54

@Hydrate - sorry, how it went for them for Covid or the jab?

My younger dc felt worse in the second 24 hours after the jab then felt better very quickly.

Howunusualisthis · 27/11/2021 06:11

No temp but headache, achy, bright red cheeks, a bit snotty and a stingy throat...

Warhertisuff · 27/11/2021 06:14

She's quite likely just got either one of the many nasty bugs going round or Covid itself (the vaccination doesn't work immediately)

Next day side effects seem quite common for the first covid jab. I imagine its because it starts working? We were told of it didnt go by day 3 though to get a pcr test. Although anecdotally I seem to know several for whom the effects lasted a bit longer.

I opened this thread expecting you to have written that someone has the jabs weeks ago and just now has symptoms. Considering it’s less than 48hours since her jab I think you can be pretty certain that it’s side effects which hopefully will subside quickly.
Most of my friends, including myself, had side effects pretty soon after our doses.

backatschool · 27/11/2021 06:59

I think most people get side effects starting 12-24 hours after the jab, then they ease off around 48 hours

ChangingStates · 27/11/2021 07:08

Probably is but I suggest you do a lateral flow test to be sure. My dd had the vaccine, just over a day later had a sore throat and mild headache which lasted about 24hrs, then was fine. We thought it was vaccine reaction then 3 days after that did a lateral flow as she was doing an activity that required it and she tested positive. Track & trace said the sore throat etc was first day Covid symptoms. Would never have known she had it if we hadn't done the lateral flow as she was absolutely fine.

Cherryana · 27/11/2021 07:12

That is exactly the side effects and timescale I had both times I had the jab. I felt so so ill but it did pass within a further 24 hours.

confusedlots · 27/11/2021 07:13

That's exactly how it was for me. Vaccine Thursday lunch time. Felt pretty ok until I got home from work Friday evening and then it just hit me the minute I sat down. Felt quite rough until Saturday lunch time and then recovered quickly.

I had Moderna booster Thurs at 3pm. Other than a sore arm no side effects until 22 hrs later when I started to feel cold / hot/ tired etc. it could be side effects. Do a lateral flow though.

Words · 27/11/2021 08:20

Had Moderna booster weds eve. Had no side effects whatsoever with AZ. Feel very tired and lethargic today and arm sore.

GivingUpOnSleep · 27/11/2021 08:38

Thanks all! For me, side effects hit hard after 12 hours and gone within 24 hours, which was also the experience of many of my friends. Reassuring though that it's also common for it to be over 24 hours later.
