Covid vax tingles and paresthesia

Keen to hear if anyone else had any nervy reactions to the covid vax; specifically Pfizer?

I (38 healthy and fit female) had my first and second dose in May this year and noticed my right arm (vax arm), hand and foot tingling a couple of months later. No idea when it started but I only noticed it around September (possibly because I was having health anxiety around other things at this time). Was pretty worried, had MRIs to rule out nasties and it was put down to a post viral thing, migraines, or something totally coincidental. The tingling continued on and off - weirdly more noticeable during my period. Annoying but not debilitating or anything.

Fast forward to last week and I got my Pfizer booster (left arm this time). Yay! 5 days later, the tingling has intensified. I’ve contacted my neuro to let him know but just interested to see if anyone else has experienced this.

My husband has some some of nerve issue in his vaccinated arm and same side foot. Lost power in his arm and has had pins and needles in his foot. He’s had a nerve conduction test and now waiting in full MRI.

I was also with friends a few weeks ago and between the with of us, 5 had nerve issues in arms! Either pins and needles, loss of power, or continued aching months after the vaccine. All AZ.

Interesting, thanks for replying! Hope your husband makes a quick recovery. Was his loss of power noticeable or mild?

I’ve been having all sorts of horrible symptoms since my second AZ jab. Pins and needles in my legs, calf pain and very sore, stiff feet and ankles with burning pain on my heels. Also developed some shakiness and weak feelings in my arms and hands.
Had MRI and nerve conduction tests which came back normal.
Blood tests showed some markers for autoimmune disease so now seeing a Rheumatologist for suspected inflammatory arthritis.
It’s turned my life upside down.Sad

Yes was left with fizzing feelings in my face and arms, I had a bad reaction to pfizer just after having it and had to be kept there for a few hours. Within a couple of days I started to get vertigo and tinnitus, I stupidly had my second jab (as they said my first reaction was not an indicator not to and I work for the nhs so was getting a lot of pressure that everything would be fine) and the fizzing feelings came back and vertigo worsened. This year as been hard as was completely healthy beforehand. No one seems to have any answers 😕 I have things mainly controlled now with medication and vestibular exercises but still not feeling like my old self.

Oh no! I hope it all comes back ok - did they speculate on whether it was a coincidence or caused by the vaccine? (Just out of interest - completely pro vax over here)

I’m sorry you’re going through this too. I’m assuming the tingling got better after the first dose?

I had this and was put on nerve pain meds. Came after the second jab.

Take it easy there with the name calling and drama k? Anti vaxxers will be anti vaxxers and will find all sorts of information all over the internet, mumsnet or not. Until a post like this is indeed banned, it’s a free forum. No one is telling anyone to skip their booster but perhaps a post like this will give peace of mind that side effects like these aren’t unusual. It sure would have given me some comfort when I went looking. Of course a doctor will be able to provide the best advice but sometimes taking to other people helps too.

Blow people can discuss their experiences with the vaccine. It's exactly the fact that people dismiss, ridicule and brush under the carpet peoples experiences that fuels misinformation and anti vax sentiments.

I’m not looking for gleeful anything, nor for catastrophising. Of course covid is worse - it causes these symptoms and much worse - and of course the benefit of getting the vaccines outweighs annoying side effects such as these. Did I need to write this disclaimer before posting? I have two young kids and will continue to get boosters - a booster I got, mind you, the second the clock ticked over 6 months since my last dose - and every vaccine available to protect me, my children, and my community, but I’m allowed to talk about side effects because knowing something is common can actually provide comfort rather than fear.

Contrary to what the poster above experienced, I don’t know anyone with these symptoms following covid. Lots who have not regain sense of smell and taste yet though.
I know lots of people who had tingling/pins and needles following the jab. For many it was temporary but for some not

Blow, you're being ridiculous. People are allowed to share their experiences to get support. Stop being so dramatic.

neithernever · 27/11/2021 10:55

Did someone turn the gas-lamps down....?

Attempting to ban people from mentioning anything even remotely less than 100% positive about this vaccine is a guaranteed way to create vaccine skepticism, hesitancy, avoidance and outright conspiracy theory.

And yet, almost a year later it seems people still fail to understand this.

Is it ignorance or wilful?

You have to wonder if it's some weird reverse-psychology trick where the hysterical pro-vax-at-any-cost are actually the nefarious sites / russians / antivax masterminds, knowing full well that every time they post someone somewhere declines a jab. I JEST. Grin

I don't know anyone who got this side effect but I hope you get the answers / support you're looking for OP.

BlancheB · 27/11/2021 11:15

Have you reported on the yellow card scheme OP? Hope you feel better soon.

Fadeout83 · 28/11/2021 03:40

Thanks everyone for your posts so far and I’m sorry some others are experiencing similar side effects. Hopefully it’s a temporary ailment for all of us - definitely recommend speaking to your GP or a neuro if you’re concerned. Interestingly my husband also had some tingling after his booster but it stopped within a day.

@BlancheB - I’ve reported it to the Aussie equivalent :)

I once had a scare about pins and needles in my legs and worried about all sorts of things it could be. It was a pinched nerve and eventually just cleared up within a week or two. Nothing to do with vaccines as we didn't have covid at the time.

Fadette · 28/11/2021 04:26

Tingling and pins and needles can also be caused by anxiety. You said it coincided with a period of health anxiety. That's another possibility.

Definitely. This plays on my mind a lot. It’s just so real! For what it’s worth, I’m scheduled to start seeing someone for health anxiety. Hopefully it helps

I’m sorry but I just don’t understand your mentality. If your body reacted badly to the first two vaccines , why on earth would you get the booster?

@Bewildered2021

On advice of my doctors. They recommended getting the booster nonetheless as the side effects were pretty minor and not necessarily related to the vaccine. And it’s better than getting covid which could impact my health much more adversely.

I didn’t have any reaction to the Pfizer vaccine, but I DID have some very nasty nerve damage from the flu jab a year earlier. The person who gave me the jab was very new to their role (over excited, reading the instructions out loud to himself etc) and put it in an area of the arm very different to where I’ve had other vaccines. I am convinced he ‘hit a nerve’. It took twelve months to heal and for a long time that arm couldn’t lift. Driving was painful!

But this was just the flu jab which I’d had many times. Google vaccine nerve injury and seenif anything sounds familiar. It’s rare as it is only caused when the nurse makes a mistake in where they put the needle, but with so many vaccines being given there will be several cases I am sure.

Or perhaps your issue is something else who knows 😬
