How do I get a kid recovery certificate for travel?

Does anyone know how to get a Covid recovery certificate for a child (under 12 so no possibility of a vaccine)?

My DS has Covid. We were hoping to go away at Christmas but he may fail the PCR now. I know how to get my recovery certificate through the app but the app is clear it's for over 16s only.

They are not available for under 16

Agh! We have a holiday booked for Christmas. A first world problem but it's test on arrival for all ages. We can't go can we 😧

I was literally coming on here to post a similar question, as a colleague purposely came into the office with symptoms this week, and as a close contact I’m now waiting for the inevitable (meant to be travelling in 3 weeks…)

What did you actually receive for your son when he tested positive? Is it just a text, or do you get an email with the test date, etc? If so, could you use that? Awaiting my first PCR so I’m not sure what results look like.

It is shit, but when you booked your trip, what plans did you make for this situation? The whole under 16 issue is nothing new

@Tickly Would something like this work?

My GP emailed me a letter for my DS.

Headed up Proof of Recovery
Detailing when he had it, the airline looked at it and said as long as he had it 2 weeks ago he can fly

Helpful reply 🙄. Misses the point I'd like a holiday. Obviously we have insurance to cover the cost.

Good luck. Hopefully it's ok. A week in and none of the rest of us has tested positive yet so you never know!

If he’s under 12 does he need a covid pass for where you’re going?

Loncan · 26/11/2021 08:25

@bumbleymummy I think OP must be travelling somewhere where everyone over 5 needs a negative PCR or proof of a previous positive test within the last certain number of months.

@Tickly Good luck as well! I hope the rest of you continue to test negative and you’re able to get some sort of letter either through your GP, or privately. I imagine between that, and a copy of his initial results email you should be fine.

sittingdownb · 26/11/2021 09:49

I know some DC who have tested negative within a month of having a positive PCR so your holiday isn't doomed. Once he's recovered I'd book him in for a PCR to see if he's negative- if he's between 5 and 12 assuming he's in school he'll probably be a close contact of someone and need to anyway.

Worse case can you change holiday destination? We went a few weeks ago with DC - all under 12 - and chose a country which only needed a negative day 2 lateral flow once back in the UK.

Watapalava · 26/11/2021 11:17

Only UK covid travel pass are valid for travel - the UK doesn't issue recovery certificates that are accepted anywhere - its have to be the official uk travel pass which has a QR code. A letter or proof of result is not a travel pass.

Its on gov website. Kids cannot get covid pass so you need to rely on testing negative or move your trip

Watapalava · 26/11/2021 11:18

I should say adults in UK can get a travel pass which includes their recent pcr but its still an official travel pass - not just a doctors letter or text.

Either way its over 16 only

Fingers crossed. Yes we will look at other options too or perhaps just postpone to Easter. A few days off at home together after Xmas will be lovely too.

I've asked this before and was suggested to try this. I've not done yet as we are a couple of weeks away still but perhaps worth exploring
