Primary school children given the go ahead for the vax in Europe

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 25/11/2021 12:58

Sky news just reported the EU has given the ok to vaccinate children aged 5-11.

I'm double jabbed and booked for my booster but no way is ds (9) having this jab. I'd never forgive myself if his heart was damaged by it. Obvs not announced in the uk YET!

Whether they ‘accept it’ or not, at an important development stage they are missing out on facial expressions that are important part of social cues etc. Children who have difficulties in these areas are going to struggle even more. I think we will see the impact of this for years.

Has this been shown? Eastern Asian countries regularly wear masks in classrooms. Not sure there is a mountain of evidence showing long term detrimental effects. If there was I am sure the anti-lockdown mob would have been waving them around.
IHateFlies · 26/11/2021 09:38

My dc have had covid and were fine. As have all their friends. Why would they need to be vaccinated?

frozendaisy · 26/11/2021 09:39

As with each rollout of age group vaccinations, some will get their 5+ child vaccinated. Some won't.

Each to their own. If you can't travel to some countries with your family because of vaccination entry requirements that really doesn't effect others so who cares?
Whinging and whining about it won't make other countries change their requirements. We couldn't go to Germany last summer because the 12+ wasn't vaccinated. Does anyone care about that? No of course they don't. And there was absolutely sweet FA we could do about it.

Does anyone really give a monkey's about other children's vaccination status?

bumbleymummy · 26/11/2021 09:39

Well there has been an increase in speech and language delays. Whether this is purely the result of less social interaction during lockdown or includes the fact that children can’t see facial expressions/mouth movements for most of the day remains to be seen.

Vaccinating kids to protect adults, most of whom are probably already vaccinated. I don't think so. No long term safety data available for this vaccine. My kids have already had Covid, as have I. All survived. I'm going to let our immune systems do their job.

Yes and also these points are much more important than travel. People seem to see travel as the carrot to incentivise vaccination
inferiorCatSlave · 26/11/2021 11:46

So is the fact that an under 18 can't get a Covid pass to show they have had Covid and/or been vaccinated (even those who are fully vaccinated due to vulnerability).

In Wales 16 -17 should be able to get covid passes - they don't need them to access venus till 18+.

So it's really odd rest of UK hasn't thought of this yet.

I haven't looked at what's needed to travel - though we are aware younger children having had the one jab they can get may give us issues traveling aboard next summer - we usually don't but haven't not had a holiday for 2 years now did think we might go further.

inferiorCatSlave · 26/11/2021 11:48

Our children got vaccinated because they were fed up with disruption to their education - I have two in exam years but even the youngest just before exam years was keen to get the jab.

HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 26/11/2021 12:18

There is absolutely no way my children will be having this vaccine and particularly given the news regarding heart attacks. I honestly believe the world has gone collectively insane over this.

LobsterNapkin · 26/11/2021 13:56

I have no desire to get it for my young kids, but here in Canada I have no doubt they will try and make it as punitive as possible if parents make that choice. So my five year old will be allowed to go to school, but not swimming with her class.

I don't give a rats ass about travel outside the country and other countries, which have different situations, should of course make their own decisions about outsiders coming in. But that's totally different than movement inside ones own country.

ktel1 · 26/11/2021 14:07

LobsterNapkin

"But that's totally different than movement inside ones own country".

Agreed, it violates the charter but it's clear the charter is meaningless at this stage.

You've been put in an awful position regarding your daughter it's really unconscionable

What news about heart attacks?

PAFMO you'll know, you're just looking to discredit sources.

How does it stop disruption to education? They no longer have to isolate as close contacts, only if they have covid, which they can still get if vaccinated. DS and his friends, and likely the majority of the school (100 off out of 750 at the end of term) have already had covid.
Littlecaf · 26/11/2021 17:13

Great. As the vaccine reduces transmission and long Covid and the chances of getting it in the first place I’m happy for my DC to have the vaccine.

Littlecaf · 26/11/2021 17:15

@HeyDugeesCakeBadge

Erm heart attacks? Where’s that from?

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 26/11/2021 17:18

An 18 year old friend of DD's died from a heart attack earlier this year.

It was caused by a virus though, not the vaccine.

Not seen any sources from pp to discredit. Can't find any on Google either.
PAFMO · 26/11/2021 18:26

I found lots of research from scientific experts about the risks of heart problems after even mild cases of Covid though.

bellamountain · 26/11/2021 18:27

If your child has had covid and recovered from a very mild illness why on earth would you even need to vaccinate them? Travel won't be enough to sway parents either, they'll just go to countries where it isn't a requirement if they want a holiday.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 26/11/2021 18:34

@IHateFlies

Bully for them. My adult DS is CEV and could die from even a mild form. We haven't seen him since February 2020. I'd like DS 10 to be vaccinated so that we might be able to visit him before he dies.
G5000 · 26/11/2021 18:37

Mine will have it as soon as it's available. DC1 always gets any virus worse than anybody else, so I am very worried that he catches it. Likely to get a severe form/long covid/multisystem inflammatory syndrome. Never had any vaccination side effects.

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 27/11/2021 09:11

My children had covid recently as did all their friends including two CEV children. All were fine, sniffles/headaches or like mine asymptomatic. Why on earth am I going to jab them with something that has possible side effects. Leave the children alone! also we must investigate all possible heart related issues with Pfizer. I’m fully vaccinated and am getting the booster next week but wake up people! I think people who are so pro vaccine for kids here are bots. Most people I know wouldn’t even dream of it for primary aged children. Also what’s with all the scaremongering ? ‘Oh you do know covid can cause these side effects in children too?’ Don’t be so ridiculous. When schools were shut down the same people were saying children were at less risk and laughed at people being scared to send them to school!

EasterIssland · 27/11/2021 09:23

Spain requests teenagers (12+) to be fully vaccinated. Some other countries ask for 12+ to be fully vaccinated as well. However , this means both doses whilst the uk only provides one shot. So If the uk does the same thing for 5-11 then it’ll leave primary kids unvaccinated for traveling next year …
