How often is covid exactly like a cold

Dd has what appears to be a cold. Snotty, congested, watery eyes and coughing! No fever.

Pcr tested this morning. 4th pcr since September - all negative so far.

Last winter she barely got a sniffle now it seems to be one cold after the other!

Hoping it's just a cold but she had a cold only about 1.5 weeks ago (tested negative then too). She got better and now another cold or covid?!

She's not poorly in herself. Running around, eating, playing etc. She's 6!

Why are you not testing by lft instead of pcr? Pcr is really to confirm pos lft, you should do lft first, then pcr is lft is pos.

We all have covid right now, first tested pos last Fri, two of us on mon eve and one on wed morning, all by lft and confirmed by pos pcr.

We all have varying degrees of mild cold symptoms to very heavy cold symptoms. The teens seem to be least affected, mainly slightly congested and temp keeps going up.

Our 5yr old is the only one whose neg, yet she is also coughing, temp etc so we are treating as if she has got it.

If you have a negative PCR and cold symptoms it’s not Covid, it’s a cold. It’s perfectly possible to have one cold after another. Immunity is low this year after reduced exposure over the last year.
I know it’s annoying, we’ve had a run of colds and a tummy bug too.

I thought LFT was for people with no symptoms, just routine testing and you were meant to get a PCR with symptoms

she's coughing, a pcr over a lf is right. Pcrs are for symptoms not just after a positive lf.

It could go either way.

Not true at all - lateral flow tests are for routine testing without symptoms. If there is a symptom (cough, fever, change in taste or smell) then you need a PCR.

Because she has a cough and warrants a pcr. She has sen and testing is hard for her sensory wise. So better to just to do the pcr here rather than testing her twice. Plus lfts seem very inaccurate from what I read online, meant to be for asymptomatic testing only.

Hope you all feel better soon 💕

PCR is for symptoms or if advised. LFT are for 2 x weekly to pick up asymptomatic cases. Yes, a pcr needed to confirm a LFT but PCRS are advised in other cases too.
