DDs best friend has positive lateral flow what do we need to do

I have 3 children, I received a message from DDs best friends mum this morning to say best friend has had a positive lateral flow and is going to have a PCR test today.
I am doing lateral flow tests on all 3 now but does DD need a PCR, do all of us need a PCR or are lateral flow tests ok?

Lateral four is fine as a screener for now, I'd wait till friend's test comes back, and if positive then book your daughter a pcr.

Thanks
The lateral flow tests are all looking negative at the moment but I need to wait another 5 mins for the last one.
Hopefully the school will accept negative lateral flows.

If DD was around BF in the 48 hours before she tested positive, she may have caught it from her as that's when friend would have been most infectious.
It takes 2-14 days to incubate though, so if DD caught it from BF, DD wouldn't test positive on a PCR until at least 2 days since then (and more likely closer to 5 days). That said, if both children are at school / a club together, they could've both caught it at the same time from a 3rd party.
Therefore, I'd suggest daily LF tests for the next couple of weeks and if BF tests positive, book a 'close contact' PCR test on day 5 (counting from when your DD and BF were last together before BF tested positive) - or sooner if she develops symptoms.

@FalconQueen But you don't have to tell the school anything yet? Your daughter doesn't have symptoms and doesn't have to isolate. There's nothing to tell.

Thanks for the help.
I had to tell school as I didn't get the message until we were just about to leave for school and I thought it best to do a Lateral Flow which takes 30mins.
The tests were all negative so that went into school late.
Now just waiting to hear if best friend is confirmed positive or not.

If you are in England and your daughter’s best friend is positive then your daughter should have a PCR test. Depending on school policy she will probably be able to attend school while awaiting the results.

I'd wait until test result received, firstly so you know it's positive and also the fact it takes a while to incubate.

Are they in the same class at school? If so, school will be aware if they mix much and you might hear further if there are already cases in the class. It's been running riot at our school and in all fairness parents have chosen not to send their children in due to close contact. They're all to provide them with work.

When were they last in contact? I would do lateral flows to screen every day, but then a PCR today and around 3-5 days after contact as it will take a few days to show up as an infection in your daughter. Can take anything from 2-14 days, but 3-5 is average.

If your daughter's friend is testing positive today she's likely been incubating it for a couple of days, so if your daughter's at school with her she might not show up positive yet from contact Monday/Tuesday.

Your daughter should have a PCR as a close contact but the rest of you don't need to (unless you have symptoms).

If in Scotland your daughter needs a PCR.
