Lateral flow test advice changed in England

Imfedupwithallofthis · 24/11/2021 05:23

The advice for some time in England has been to test twice weekly with lateral flow test.

On BBC news yesterday it was quietly announced that the advice in England was now to test before going to indoor crowded places. The webpage has been updated.

www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

In England, you should take a rapid lateral flow test:
if you will be in a high risk situation that day
before you visit people who are at higher risk of severe illness if they get COVID-19
You are at higher risk of catching or passing on COVID-19 when:
in crowded and enclosed spaces
there is limited fresh air

In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, you should take a lateral flow test twice a week.

Haven’t most people been doing this anyway?

I never visit someone without doing an LFT…

Admittedly I don’t get out much!

Doublevaxxed DS1 had two negative LFT and symptoms of a cold. Asthmatic so wheezy and short of breathe not unusual. GP prescribed antibiotics and steroids and PCR. He had COvid thankfully he has recovered.

I hadn't seen this so thank you. I won't be testing my two every school day though. Nope.

They don't need to shout it because its advice.

Vast majority of people are now fed up and have no intention of asymptomatic testing - who on earth is going to test prior to going to a panto for example - "Sorry kids, mum did a test even tho we are all perfectly fine and now we can't go!" Yes mum of the year.

Those who are quietly still bothered about covid will be glued to every covid announcement anyway - for the rest of us, such requests are falling on deaf ears now.

Most people I know have been doing this anyway. Timing their regular testing to when they are going out somewhere exciting, or to visit elderly relatives. “Oh, we will do a test before we go” has become the new “socially distanced, of course” in my circles.
