3 year old says everything tastes yucky post covid

My three year old is the least fussy child ever. He always liked everything and had a good appetite. He had covid at the end of September.

Since then, he cries about dinner and refuses to eat. He always says dinner is yucky. He would rather go hungry than eat. His lunch box comes back full, breakfast goes untouched and he picks at his dinner.

We don't feel this is behavioural because he really is getting distressed.

Anyone had this? Any tips?
He will eat fruit, peas, sweetcorn and the occasional bit of fish but that's about it. It's such a huge change but we've only just realised that the sudden change has been since he had covid

Hello. So sorry to hear about your ds. The same thing happened to my then 12 year old ds post covid. He went from being the most un fussy eater/food lover/huge eater to finding most foods tasted literally like sh*t whereby he would put something in his mouth and had to spit it out. His diet became extremely limited having always eaten everything (most protein foods were a particular problem along with a lot of fruit etc) Frantic research showed me that this is a thing than can happen post covid. I joined Facebook groups for what I learnt is called parosmia and dysgeusia and did a lot of research (including going to the doctor who I had to fight to get taken seriously and a referral to specialists) He’s still being seen periodically although the medics have been unable to help him. What has helped him was myofascial release. He’s about 75% better now ( had covid last December) He says that nothing tastes right still but it tastes less awful and he’s thankfully back to eating everything again (but interestingly having not loved super spicy foods is now always asking for extra chilli with everything 🤔)

Chances are he will eventually get his proper sense of taste back. He hasn't been recovered for that long if he had it in September.

Sorry that isn't much use to you right now. I would probably just let him eat the things that taste ok for another couple of weeks and then try again. Hopefully everything will go back to normal soon.

We've had a chat with him this morning and he was really upset. Bless him. I feel awful we've only just realised the issue

He slept 4pm until 7am overnight last night. Poor thing is still struggling. His brother who also had it isn't experiencing any of this
