why are most mask-wearers now wearing the inexpensive surgical masks (blue/white) rather than fabric ones? Safety or just lost interest in having beautiful masks?

Just that really - I'm still wearing fabric ones and was thinking of getting some silk ones for people as christmas presents....

What do you think?

You are of course free to worry about all these germs and particles and viruses everywhere.

I choose not to.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 27/11/2021 10:14

So you’re basically encouraging people to be careless with mask use - based on no knowledge whatsoever?

MLMshouldbeillegal · 27/11/2021 10:17

I just think that in the grand scheme of things, in terms of how viruses spread and the risk factors, the way in which you take off your mask or launder it is pretty low on the list of risky behaviours.

I do appreciate that this is not a popular opinion with the covid-obsessed posters who frequent this board.

I get claustrophobic in fabric masks but can just about tolerate a paper one for 10 minutes.

This thread has got a bit weird. It’s like being in July 2020

@Rabblesthecat

If someone bought me a mask for Christmas if use it as toilet tissue before I’d ever use it as a mask
🤣🤣🤣👏🏻 love that!
MLMshouldbeillegal · 27/11/2021 10:40

Indeed. We're back to the IF YOU THINK MASKS ARE BAD TRY A VENTILATOR bollocks.

Don't ask me, I'm not a scientist.

But it's not just one thing, is it? You can't argue that the fact that people aren't boiling their cotton masks is the cause.

It's a myriad of reasons - asymptomatic transmission, people not isolating when they should, not understanding symptoms, gatherings in pubs/nightclubs, schools, people who have refused to be vaccinated just for starters.

But mainly, because covid is a virus doing what viruses do.

A rare breath of sanity in a hive of hysteria ⬇️

Well, I like to think that I am generally easy about Christmas gifts (or birthday ones) and I don't generally get offended.

However, if someone bought me a mask for Christmas I would certainly not be impressed. I might even make my displeasure known.

dabbydeedoo · 27/11/2021 11:13

Silk masks do nothing and are a total waste of time. If you're going to wear a mask, then do it properly and wear an FFP2 or at least a 3-ply surgical one. If someone bought me a silk mask it would go in the bin, or maybe I'd use it as a duster.

SmellyOldOwls · 27/11/2021 11:19

Fabric ones kept getting lost in the wash, plus my work had loads of boxes of disposables in so 😬

stargirl1701 · 27/11/2021 11:22

I wear the fabric ones to pop to the shops but I wear the blue ones all day teaching. The fabric ones are too sweaty to wear all day long.
