tonight.

After a hellish second lockdown. Staying in bed all day, not engaging with school, not seeing his friends, doing badly in GCSEs…

We have been so worried about him Sad. He refused any counselling.

He just said he’s not worried about everyone dying anymore. He is talking to his friends at school and not hiding away.

Honestly further lockdowns can get to fuck. Angry

He was the least anxious person beforehand. This is the first time he’s talked about it. These poor kids. Thank Christ we have the vaccine/boosters and we can live with this virus.

I know how you feel. Dd ended up on Setraline after the second lockdown. Ds coped better than we originally thought he would, but he could not engage with online education.

Ds is currently isolating with Covid (Dd caught it last summer) & it’s been tough especially as Dd did 2 lots of isolation in halls of residence before catching it) but both now are living their lives, happy to take the risk and knowing vaccination is helping people not to be as seriously ill.

Flowers @Comefromaway sorry to hear yours have been through the mill too. It’s great to hear they are feeling better and living life again. 💕 I just get mad at these lockdown lovers….

Ps I hope your DS isn’t too badly affected. Ours caught it over the summer and the isolation was hard and put us back.

Both of them had hardly any symptoms thankfully. Dd had been isolating and testing last summer due to cases at college and was asymptomatic but she was double vaxxed. The hard part was being so far away from her and knowing she was alone in a tiny room.

Ds was coughing and tired/achy for a day then as right as rain since. He’s allowed out on Thursday.

I am glad your son is feeling better OP. Lockdown was difficult for many children.
I also want to point out that everyone is different.
Lockdown and home learning was great for my daughter, her mental health really improved as she felt safe and secure at home.
She wasn’t alone in this - I remember a survey reported by the BBC saying that mental health improved for many children and teenagers during lockdown. I remember the survey as I identified with it. School for my dais very difficult. Even for those for whom school is just a nuisance, lockdown and being at home suited lots of them.

My DC caught Covid and is still desperately ill months later. No school, no friends, no social life, no hobbies. I wish people had locked down better. Just another perspective.

doorornottodoor · 22/11/2021 23:25

Different perspectives. Thank you both Flowers

@PeachesPumpkin I hope your daughter is doing ok now. It certainly has shone a light on how school is a very stressful experience for some children.

@LordoftheDanceSaidHe i I’m so sorry to hear that. It must be incredibly hard. Are you able to access any help? Have they diagnosed anything ? Take care 💕

I think our school will close soon as there has been an outbreak in two year groups and even the head has Covid! For so long the school had no cases and then suddenly it hits hard.

I do understand that also as school has always been incredibly difficult for ds. (he is autistic). College is 100 times better for him. A big part of his lockdown difficulties was the loss of things that make a difference to him such as his music and theatre activities.

We were very strict. Dd was very anxious during the first lockdown and also anxious about the lack of mitigation once school returned (ds didn;t have those worried but his college handled things much better). I think it's the vaccination programme that has helped ease things for them.

@doorornottodoor I am very sad to read this. Lockdowns have been devastating for many, and it is particularly upsetting to hear of young people harmed and disadvantaged. I wish him and you strength through this.
