Boosters after 5 or 6 months?

From what I understand the boosters for the over 40s are for after 6 months only. But, you can can book them after 5 months as long as the appointment is 6 months after your second dose.

Is that the same for the over 50s? Or can they have theirs after 5 months.

I'm 43 but due to go abroad about 5 days before the 6 months anniversary of my 2nd jab.

I'm thinking I might beg for the booster before I go.

Anyone with some information please?

6 months for over 50's as well. At the vaccination centre I went to for mine they had a white board up with the date you needed to have had your second vaccine to be eligible for the jab on that day.

It's 6 months for all age groups. You could try your luck by making an appointment for the last 30 minutes of a clinic as close to your 6 months as possible. When you arrive you'll be told you can't have it, ask if the clinical lead will agree if there's any vaccine left over and you're happy to wait.

I've seen this with 2nds and boosters (volunteer at clinic). Some people have been lucky, others not.

Booking opens at five months for an appointment at six months (282 days) +

*182

I had my booster 3 days early. The vaccine centre said they could do them 1 week early, but I did have to read a statement to say I understood that I was getting it earlier than the recommended 182 days. I booked it from the nhs website and just picked the date it offered.

I'm 43 and had my booster yesterday at 170 days! This was at Guy's hospital in London. I'm in group 6, CV. They said they are doing then after five months.

I'm in Scotland and had my booster at a drop in clinic when it was 24 weeks and 3 days since my second jab. I was there getting my son his first, and since I was over 24 weeks they gave me mine. See if you can find a drop in or mobile vaccine clinic near you and they will do it without any problems.

It’s six months but I’ve been asked to make an appointment from a few weeks ago, so two weeks before I was due. I’m asked due to a medical condition though

MissyB1 · 21/11/2021 18:51

I tried to get mine today at a drop in clinic, I’m mid 50s and next week would be six months since my 2nd dose - they refused me today.

LilyPond2 · 21/11/2021 18:59

I am over 50 and booked an appointment through the national booking system. When I got there they refused to vaccinate me because it was 181 days since my second jab and they said that the computer shouldn't have let me book an appointment earlier than 182 days after second jab!

MissyB1 · 21/11/2021 19:06

Part of the problem is there seems to be a lot of misinformation about all this. Too many conflicting and complicated “rules”.

mybodymychoice · 21/11/2021 19:08

If you notice your health declining with each booster you have will you draw a line under it and stop getting boostered? Then if the government tells you your vaccine passport has now expired due to not getting enough boosters and you are treated as unvaccinated? What will you do then? This is possibly a hypothetical question, but maybe not.

Doodar · 21/11/2021 20:15

you may possibly get it 2 days before your 6 month, not any earlier.

Perihelion · 21/11/2021 20:18

It's 24 weeks in Scotland.
