Just had a positive lateral flow test, booster booked for this weekend. Have cold symptoms but am asthmatic. Fainted from the shock so now feeling freezing cold and shaky and have a young family to protect. Terrified about long covid and the T1 diabetes link. Only tested as meant to be helping out as a volunteer today.

Deep breath op. Have you booked a PCR? Is someone with you?

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 20/11/2021 07:53

Yes PCR booked, other half is firefighting downstairs with the children.

Try not to worry. Lots of us have all had covid and been absolutely fine.
Like you, I went into full panic mode. I needn't have. We were all fine and continue to be fine.

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 20/11/2021 12:44

Thank you, approx which day might I know I am over the worst and likely to get seriously ill?

I haven't had covid yet so I can't say but keep talking on here if it helps. Have you got painkillers and comforting foods in? Soup, yoghurt etc?

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 20/11/2021 13:03

Thank you, yes, big load on DH though 😓

What are you so scared of? I’ve had covid twice & it’s been fine. I have moderately severe asthma and I just cannot bring myself to be that worried about covid. Both times have been fine. First time was pre-vaccines and it was very mild. I’ve had far worse colds. Second time post vaccines, it was reasonably rough but nothing concerning. I just felt pretty miserable for a couple weeks with headaches & general exhaustion. Other than not getting my smell back yet, I’m completely fine. I’d happily take my chances of getting it again..

Im currently a few days into a stomach bug and let me tell you, I’d rather covid any day. 😩

Also, I didn’t isolate at all from my husband or children. I didn’t have a choice. He works so I had to look after them, play, cook etc. me & him shared a bed etc. None of them caught it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The kids continued to go to school & nursery after negative PCRs on day 3 & day 8 and daily negative LFs.

Bobholll · 20/11/2021 13:04

*my kids are 4 & 1 .. they’ve both had covid the last time I had it. One was asymptomatic & one had a runny nose. You really don’t need to freak about your kids.

PurplePumpkinDream · 20/11/2021 13:06

@Happydaysandhappysmiles. Don’t worry I had Covid back in August and like you I panicked having other conditions as well. But it was just like an ordinary flu and finally cleared up after about 3/4 weeks. Take paracetamol and plenty of hot drinks when you are feeling rough. Don’t expect to feel better after 10 days or so, it’s often longer than that.

WheelieBinPrincess · 20/11/2021 13:07

Sorry, you actually fainted from a positive LF test?

That’s a rather extreme thing to experience, do you suffer from quite bad anxiety generally?

WheelieBinPrincess · 20/11/2021 13:10

I don’t mean that to sound as harsh as it probably does but physically fainting from it does seem quite worrying.

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 20/11/2021 13:14

No but various reasons covid has really affected my MH (mainly last year). I honestly think it was just the shock as haven't felt like that since. I just feel like I have a bad cold and headache.

That is very helpful thank you and yes I loathe stomach bugs, poor you, hope you feel better very very soon.

I don't think you need to be so worried. You are double vaccinated and that gives you protection against severe illness and also you are much less likely to get long covid if fully vaxxed.
Asthma is not a huge risk factor and I assume you are quite young if you have small children.
You may not get any worse than a cold but if you do the worst is usually around a week in.

I am CEV with multiple health conditions and I was quite ill with covid but am completely recovered.

The panic and worry is worse than covid try to stay calm.
Like you I had cold symptoms then days 5 an 6 were the worst I had a bad headache that wouldn't go with painkillers and lost smell. Woke on day 7 feeling absolutely fine still no smell tho that came back about 3 weeks later. I would say I have had worst colds.

Oftenithinkaboutit · 20/11/2021 13:28

* Fainted from the shock so now feeling freezing cold and shaky*

This response is much much more concerning that you getting covid

sharksarecool · 20/11/2021 13:35

This could be a really good thing to happen to you. It sounds like you have been unduly anxious about this for a long time. Now the thing you have feared has actually happened. Most likely you will pass through this and feel fine again by the end of your isolation. And now all that fear of getting covid will be lifted. And if you are one of the tiny minority to suffer worse symptoms, then you can deal with actual specific issues as they arise rather than living constantly with anxiety. Because fear of the unknown is much worse than fear of the known. So get some rest and get well soon!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/11/2021 23:25

I am overweight, 48, was 3 days away from my booster (group 6 for blood clotting and past dvt/pe reasons). It was 8 days of feeling shit, but I looked after myself and was convinced I'd be fine. I then panicked about aching legs a bit, but rested loads, ate with nutritional value in mind, drank loads if liquid, took painkillers and watched a lot of telly. I felt bad, but it was ok. Vast majority of people are OK with it, even with other issues.

Thinking positive can't hurt. Get a supermarket delivery for squash and salty things like crisps, veg soup, make a Netflix list, get sunglasses (the headache was quite hard work), get nice bubble baths or bath bombs. Hunker down.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/11/2021 23:28

Oh, if you have a garden get out in it every day - the fresh air helped. If not, open a window, ventilate the rooms you're living in. That helped too. Try to shower or bath every day because the steam helps clear the sinuses etc.

I also have this fear and anxiety of the unknown. Mine is so bad I’ve been actively trying to catch covid to get it over with, while I’ve still got some vaccine immunity. My family have had covid, they’ve coughed, sneezed and not isolated from me during two separate isolation periods, and I still can’t seem to catch the bugger. So the fear remains. Look at it that at least you’re getting it done before Christmas? Flowers

Other than the thinking positive, which I do about everything! Smile

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 21/11/2021 07:06

Thanks everyone, countdown to next Monday now and just hope it doesn't get worse than this. In theory I am on day 3/4 as I had very mild cold symptoms at the start. Come on vaccine do your stuff!
