Is Moderna or Pfizer more effective as a booster?

Is there any evidence yet as to which is more effective as a booster? I read a dose of Moderna has more vaccine in it than Pfizer but that the UK booster was only half a dose.

I had AZ for my first and second doses. I can see several walk ins near me doing Pfizer or Moderna so I actually can choose which to have. Does one have the edge in terms of effectiveness or even side effects?

No..they looked at my vaccine record and said I would be having Pfizer.

Thanks @JamesHetfieldspick. That worries me as I really don't want to have Moderna and will probably walk out if that's all I can have.

(I have a needle phobia I appreciate there is no rational thought involved here!)

I had Moderna for my first 2 and not sure whether it would be best to have Pfizer or Moderna for my booster

They are pretty much the same. I know it's easy to say but which one it is shouldn't even be a consideration - they both use the same type of needle anyway?

A phobia isn't rational. I appreciate that it's anecdotal evidence but I've seen more people saying they were nauseous or sick after Moderna and I can't deal with that. I know it can happen with any of them but I want to minimise my chances!

It's on hold at the moment anyway, I tried to book and while I can do it I don't want to go to any of the options offered for various reasons. I'm hoping I'll be contacted by my GP like last time as I want to go back to the same centre where I know someone can go in with me and I can lie down.

I had Pfizer for my third vaccine, would have happily had moderna at a full dose
Not sure what my booster will be as that'll be next year now

Even if you can't, be reassured that all centres will allow you to have someone with you, and they will all have somewhere for you to lie down. In reality you are for more likely to get Pfizer than Moderna. For various reasons I had to have Moderna & there's not that much of it around & some will.omliy do second doses, not boosters to avoid any possible errors with the booster being a half dose.
Cookerhood · 20/11/2021 16:01

And i had no bad effects from Moderna apart from a slightly sore arm.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/11/2021 16:04

Thanks @Cookerhood. DH had his booster a couple of weeks ago but didn't see if there was anywhere to lie down - I was relying on him!

I didn't realise all centres would have somewhere to lie down, that's good to know. I need him with me to speak for me as well otherwise I'll have to have a Paddington Bear type label to let them know who I am! I can laugh about it at the moment as I can't book the appointment, as soon as I can book the panic will set in.

Cookerhood · 20/11/2021 16:17

I'm a vaccinator & I completely understand. They are trained to be understanding and are used to all sorts, from people who tell you they are terrified to those who pretend they aren't but actually are.
There will definitely be somewhere to lie down, you can definitely take your husband and there is nothing that will shock or surprise anyone, they will just be pleased that you are there. Just tell them what works best for you.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/11/2021 17:14

Thanks for explaining and for your kindness @Cookerhood.

DH checked his text messages and he had one from the local health authority inviting him to book and the list was much better so I'm going to wait a bit. If it's too long I'll call round a few on the NHS website list and talk to them first.

Thanks again 💐

I had AZ x2 and then had Pfizer 11 days ago. Felt pretty confident and happy. I had a positive LFT this morning. I feel cheated! 😂

KittyMcKitty · 20/11/2021 18:04

@LizzieSiddal

I was told that all boosters are to be Moderna as all Pfizer jabs are being directed to youngsters. Not sure if it is true?
I had Pfizer for my booster (after 2 x AZ) my dh went to the same centre 2 weeks later and had moderna (after 2 x Pfizer) it’s just whatever they had that day.
