To ask about vaccinations for under 12s

Hi myself and my husband are discussing whether to get our children vaccinated if it comes down to their age group which I think it will very soon to be honest. All currently under 12. Im just wondering how do you make that decision between you? Husband is afraid we will leave our children infertile or with other long term affects. I'm more thinking if we don't get back to normal soon their mental health will suffer. We don't live in the UK. Thanks

The infertility myth had been roundly debunked. But if he's the type to fall for that sort of stuff I'm honestly not sure is know how to handle it. I'm not good with 'silly' people in general. Maybe try and fibs some reputable research summaries? And definitely keep talking. Have you discussed wirh the children yet as well - do they have an opinion?

Our DC had covid last year. It lasted a matter of hours for each of them and then they were completely back to normal. We now know that their likelihood of survival from covid is not 99.997%, it is now 100%.

Risk of covid vaccine, causing some children to have heart issues may be rare but is not 0%. Plus we are not satisfied that testing a vaccine on less than 2000 kids and only monitoring them for a couple of months afterwards is sufficient.

Risk of covid 0%
Risk of serious side effects not 0%

Easy decision, no vaccine for the DC.

I’m not convinced them getting vaccinated will change much for them anyway. We’re not in the uk either and all kids here from age 6 are still in masks all day at school, including teenagers even if they’re vaccinated. Then what about in 6 months time when their vaccine wanes?

Why does your husband think it will cause infertility? That’s just not true and has been widely known not to be for some time.

There is no help if your child has a bad reaction to the vaccine. In my opinion this is an unfair bargain.
Yesterday at the doctors (we are also not in the Uk) the doctor said the reasons for a teen to have the vaccine were 1. Get their freedoms back 2. To protect others. 3. That the risk to him was negligible.
So my conclusion that it is policy that ppl don’t have their freedoms back so that’s not a reason to vaccinate. I’m dubios that a child being vaccinated protects others because if most of the vulnerable others are vaccinated then that vaccine is what protects them. Not the vaccine a child has. I recognize in CEV families it’s a difficult situation - but it was pretty Covid too.

What’s your source for risk of covid being 0% for this age group?

Here’s just one article reporting data that disagrees with you www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2021/mar/02/long-covid-uk-children-date-cause-concern-scientists-say

Latest official data shows > than zero for both deaths and hospitalisations in this age group www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19latestinsights/hospitals#hospital-admissions-by-age

I am not an expert but all the reading I have done tells me that this risk to my children from vaccination is lower than the risk to them of catching covid.

(I have two kids, one has had covid and wasn’t ill at all, the other has avoided it, but I would still have them both vaccinated without hesitation).

We know what your stance is on these things, but can you at least not throw around silly statistics? Just say "Risk is very low" if that's what you mean. BTW, your survival stat of 100% is incorrect (unless you are speaking about your own children).
