Change in policy announced today. Thinking thins might be useful information if you’ve got a child of this age due to be vaccinated who has recently has covid.

My dd is supposed to be having hers tomorrow 6 weeks after covid.
Will they just know she can't have it? Or would I need to let them know?

I would tell her to say she can’t have it now and contact the school in the morning just in case the message hasn’t got through to your particular batch of vaccinators yet. Hopefully everyone is being briefed this evening on how to deal with this tomorrow.

My DD had it today, 30 days after a positive test. She was asked if she had had covid in the last 28 days.

The advice literally changed this evening

Tomorrow they’ll be asking if they’ve had covid in the last 12 weeks.

I'll contact the school in the morning, and have told her to say no thank you and explain why if they still try and give it to her.

Thank you for posting this. My son tested positive about 3 weeks ago so I was going to try to get an appointment for his vaccine in the next few weeks. Really glad I've seen this!

No rush now! Hope he’s recovered?

@PurpleDaisies He's doing okay thank you! His symptoms were relatively mild thankfully but most of them are still present- cough, headaches and dizziness on and off, and gets tried easily.

Hopefully it won’t go on for too much longer for him. Flowers I had covid about the same time and I’m still tired a lot and the brain fog is a nuisance. It could be worse though.

A virologist’s view of this decision

Apparently Norway consider 12-15 year olds who have had the virus to have immunity:

“Why not vaccinate 12-15-year-olds who have had COVID-19 disease?
Since recovery also provides protection against new infection, vaccines are not currently offered to 12- to 15-year-olds who have had COVID-19 disease.”

www.fhi.no/en/id/vaccines/coronavirus-immunisation-programme/coronavirus-vaccine/#vaccination-of-children-and-adolescents

They’ve been offering a single dose of the vaccine to 12-15 year olds who haven’t had the virus since September.

Does the myocarditis risk only apply to children? Just wondering as I'm waiting for a PCR test for my DD and just had the booster so wondering whether there are any risks if I get covid so soon after having the booster?

They’ve only changed it for healthy 12-17 year olds. The gap between vaccine doses is longer for 16 and 17 year olds (12 weeks) so waiting for 12 weeks after natural infection matches that. Nothing has changed for adults so I wouldn’t worry.

@Flidina

Does anyone know, how you withdraw consent? My son is due to have it next week, but is only 5 weeks post covid, and we would prefer to wait a little longer.

I emailed and phoned school. Also wrote it in the planner for ds to show if necessary.

JanglyBeads · 17/11/2021 22:59

The nurses will be triple checking before they give each shot by the sound of it, I wouldn’t worry.

It’s going to significantly slow down the vaccination process both because of the checking time and because so many children who’ve been infected since Sept will bow have to wait.
