The link didn’t work for me so I googled.

I’d be hopeful if it wasn’t for my triple vaccinated colleagues who have both caught Covid whilst staying with their double vaccinated relatives.

Surely it's a simple numbers game if this were the case wouldn't the number of infections drop as the vaccination rate rises?

Woowoooooo · 16/11/2021 19:41

That's fake news

LANCET study concludes 29 Oct 2021 t.co/zex01mJ4Ca 'fully vaccinated individuals with breakthrough infections have peak viral load similar to unvaccinated cases and can efficiently transmit infection in household settings, including to fully vaccinated contacts.'

From PHE England

1.7 Vaccination
1.7.1. Comparison of viral load Ct by vaccination status
In the NHS Test and Trace (NHSTT) case data, the mean and median lowest Ct values for
all cases with Delta, where Ct data are available, since the 14 June 2021 are similar, with
a median of 17.8 for unvaccinated and 18.0 for those with 2 vaccine doses (Figure 12).
This means that whilst vaccination may reduce an individual’s overall risk of becoming
infected, once they are infected there is limited difference in viral load (and Ct values)
between those who are vaccinated and unvaccinated
Given they have similar Ct values,
this suggests limited difference in infectiousness. To note, this analysis is undertaken on
case data and are not age-stratified. Findings can be influenced by test-seeking behaviour,
as well as true changes in the data, for example the age distribution of cases, which can
also influence Ct values.

Is this really true? I didn't think it was. I've had my booster but I didn't think it made me any less capable of transmitting it to another person?

millenialblush · 16/11/2021 20:04

So then why aren't numbers going down?

ollyollyoxenfree · 16/11/2021 20:13

That's fake news

@Woowoooooo

It isn't fake news, it's just findings reported from a different study (sampled from the Netherlands in Aug-Oct) to the one you have copied and pasted from PHE.

Whilst findings have been inconsistent, there is mounting evidence from a variety of sources that vaccinated people with breakthrough infections have a lower viral load and are infectious for a shorter time period, which is what you would expect. This is in addition to the fact that vaccinated people are far less likely to be infected in the first place, meaning they cannot transmit.

It would be really helpful if the media stopped with these definitive headlines as it's causing much confusion and distrust.

ollyollyoxenfree · 16/11/2021 20:15

@millenialblush

So then why aren't numbers going down?
There would be far higher cases if no one was vaccinated.

Delta is very very transmissible, universties & schools are open, we don't have many mitigations in place, we're heading into winter, and vaccines don't have 100% efficacy.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 16/11/2021 20:19

I caught covid (double vaccinated)
And didn't give it to anyone in my house.
I live with 4 other adults and they made no effort to stay away from me. (I tried to keep out of the way, but with one bathroom and one kitchen it was never happening)

NauseousNancy · 16/11/2021 20:22

I caught covid (double vaccinated) from my asymptomatic daughter, and then passed it to my double vaccinated husband. There was a 3 week period between my daughter and my husband, so pretty sure I was the middle man.

My dad caught it and passed it to my mum…both double vaccinated

Have we just been very unlucky??

FflosFfantastig · 16/11/2021 20:28

I caught it and didn't pass it to anyone else in my household.

FIL caught it from child, gave it to MIL and my partner, then I got it. We're all double vaxxed too. I know loads of people with covid atm, all double or triple vaxxed. Lots of school staff. If parents knew what was going on in schools right now, not just with unvaxxed kids, but illness in staff and the consequent disruption to education, they'd be horrified.
NauseousNancy · 16/11/2021 20:46

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot - I can believe you. If it wasn’t for me keeping my daughter home after she was identified as a close contact, and testing her each day, we would have never known she had it and she likely would have infected her whole class and teacher. There was no requirement for her to isolate or test as she had a negative PCR immediately after the contact was identified. So stupid.
