Symptomless PCR Test

Our school have just messaged to say there's a covid case in the class and they want every child to do a PCR test and twice weekly LF tests. Surely that's unnecessary? If my child tests negative today on a PCR, but gets a temp on Wednesday, he'd need another PCR, right? Given these kida are 4, it seems a but cruel. I can refuse can't I, and just do LF/PCR if any symptoms?

Working at a school that has 18/30 off with covid in one class, and most other classes have cases, I'd say it's worthwhile doing. We had 12/30 off in another class before half term. You just don't know how many it's going to affect. We have every window and door open to reduce the spread in the school (except main door for security), and nine year olds in masks in the classrooms who are asking to be kept separate from rest of the school - they're being brilliant, taking responsibility but you can't look in some of the classrooms without feeling a tinge of regret that we're having to witness this happening to our younger ones.

For this reason alone (they'll be other arguments eg ECV, elderly family, nice plans made etc that people don't want cancelled, prevent spread in the community etc) I'd say if you can get a PCR done and feel able to do LFTs, please do it.

Case in one of my childrens class and the letter said advised to take a PCR and doesn't mention LFT.
I was talking to a parent the other week when there was a case in one of the other classes and she said some of the parents she spoke to didn't take their child for a PCR, some did just PCR and some just LFT for 10 days and some did nothing.
