Daughter coughing..would we need to test again if just recovered from covid?

My daughter has the most awful cough at the moment which is worse at night but just wondering whether I'd need to test again if we've recently recovered from the virus. It was 6 weeks ago and the only symptom she had when we had covid was a slight temp.
I know your supposed to wait 90 days but technically she has symptoms although I'm fairly sure you couldn't catch it again so quickly . Just worried what school might say??

We have a similar issue here because my DS had no symptoms 5 weeks ago but did have covid (confirmed by a positive PCR). Isolated and then back to normal for 2 weeks and now he has a temperature and a dry cough.

The issue I think is that we can't test as it is likely to show as positive from the previous infection. I'm sure there are other colds going round but my DS was a close contact of cases at school so I just don't know what to do. Would be interested to see what people think.

Do a lateral flow. They are much less likely to show old infections.

The official advice is not to retest with 90 days of a positive PCR, so I guess you just carry on as normal, keeping her at home if she's feeling unwell or seems particularly infectious just like with any other illness.

I presume this is because it's been shown that it's not possible to contract Covid again so soon. I read something saying that 5 months is the shortest confirmed times between infections.

Thanx everyone..school have been fine and not said to retest. Just thought I'd check as it all gets a bit confusing sometimes

You are advised to take a test within 90 days if you develop new covid symptoms.
‘ Anyone who has previously received a positive COVID-19 PCR test result should not be re-tested within 90 days of that test, unless they develop any new symptoms of COVID-19.’

GypsyWanderer · 15/11/2021 20:19

I only looked it up because DS had covid last month and his best friend has just had a positive test result so needed to know as I was told on by track and trace not to test within 90 days.

@GypsyWanderer OMG You’re right! I’ve read that info several times and misread the last bit! So you ARE supposed to test again within 90 days if you get symptoms again.....

Yep. I didn’t know either. It says something about infection being possible but obviously could also be the first bout of covid and no way of knowing.

Silverswirl · 16/11/2021 14:21

The rules don’t make sense and the list of symptoms is so out of date making the whole thing almost defunct.
Don’t test. Just keep your child at home if they are unwell.

Could be long covid which isn't infectious but leaves a horrid hacking cough. Know several people who had/have this.
