My 11 yR old DD has a cough, a temperature of between 38.8 and 39.3. Her heart rate is between 125-135bpm. Paracetemol and ibuprofen not done very much.

I’ve spoken to NHS 24 and they’ve just said that someone from the covid advice team will contact me. That was 3 hours ago. No idea when they will ring. I’m particularly worried about her heart rate. She’s reasonably perky, given everything, but at what point do you ring back?

Ring back now if you're worried

Have recent experience of calling 111 at night. They do call back even towards midnight, but they are deluged apparently (hence the delay). Trust your instincts. If your DD seems to be getting any worse, Val back immediately. The fever stage of Covid is really nasty.

A higher heart rate normally accompanies a fever. Hers isn’t that much higher than the normal range. I wouldn’t worry too much tbh.
The fever is fighting the virus and making her body a horrible place for covid to exist. Go by her feelings- medicate when she is uncomfortable with the temp but by otherwise. Keep her hydrated and calm. Don’t flap.

Phoned 111 for my 11yo with cough and fever a couple of weeks back, at 8pm. They said we'd get a callback within 4 hours. Then I got a text saying they'd decided it was non urgent (despite not having spoken to a doctor just a call handler), and we didn't get a call from a doctor until 6am. By which time I'd already taken her to A&E as I was concerned about her breathing. If you're worried, don't wait on 111.

What is her Oxygen level.
I had v.high temperature with Covid 2 weeks ago, up to 39.9, heart rate sometimes was as high as your daughters and O2 levels was dropping to lowest 88, but that level never lasted longer than couple of minutes.
I was lying in a cool room with open window, on my back, with my upper body elevated, and a pillow under my knees. When I had energy I had a shower. Shower was cooling me quicker than any medicines.
Could she have shower?

If you didnt know what her heart rate was, would you be worried? Because an elevated rate is normal with a fever and childrens heart rates are higher than adults anyway.

Thank you for the messages. DDs temperature is back to normal and she seems perfectly fine. Will see what the test says.
