Advice on Covid.

I got Covid on 15 October even tho I am double vaxxed (age 49). Horrendous cold which floored me. Loss of smell, sore throat, blocked sinus, daily headaches and cough and extreme fatigue.

I am still very tired and have to go to sleep for at least an hour every day otherwise I can't function. Still getting headaches and my ability to function normally is non existent at the moment.

I am still off work and have been signed off another two weeks.

Has anyone had similar symptoms and duration and how long before I can expect to see the fatigue go? I'm starting to struggle mentally too which is scaring me as I'm a single mother and my resilience and capacity with my children is too low and is now affecting them.

Advice welcome.
Thank you.

I could have written your post. I'm watching with interest as I'm in exactly the same boat. My chest is tight and I have a fast heart rate, well fast for me at 120.

My GP telephoned yesterday and said that in his experience it's likely to be 6 weeks but also said they don't really know.

I'm finding honey and lemon useful.

Poor you. I hope you start to feel better soon.

I had Covid in January and I was very much like you at this stage. You're only about 4 weeks past testing positive. That's still early days for Covid as it drags on like no other illness I've ever experienced.

I vaguely remember trying to leave the house at 3 weeks, reaching my car and then turning around and going back inside. I literally felt too weak to be outside. At 4 weeks a 15 minute walk was a major accomplishment.

It does get better though. Slowly and steadily I did get my strength back.

Sleep if you need to. Daytime naps help you recharge. I think trying to power through it just doesn't work as it sets you back further in the end.

After about 3 months I was feeling ok again. After 6 months pretty much back to normal. I like to cycle as a hobby/exercise and restarting that was like exercising for the first time in my life which was a real shock but I can pretty much cycle like before now.

It was five weeks for me although it felt like forever at the time. I still have a few post covid niggles, especially if it get too tired but its manageable now.

Is there no one who can take the children for a while so that you can rest properly OP?

My friend had to have another 4 weeks off work after her isolation period. She did manage a 30 minute walk each day, which she said helped, but she also went to bed each afternoon for a couple of hours. She said the fatigue really got her down also not being able to do her 2 jobs, but she slowly got better and her energy levels returned.

Hope you begin to feel better soon.

Thank you all for your responses which are all really reassuring - it's a horrible illness and I think I naively believed that being vaccinated would protect me completely. Clearly not!

I'm looking at whether I can find someone to have the children for a week to give me some respite. Last night was awful as I completely over reacted to my son forgetting to bring his reading book home from school. Madness.

What's been hardest is the guilt for being off work so long. I'm never ill and this length of time being off (plus a boss who hasn't shown any interest in my wellbeing at all) has made it even more difficult.

Thank you for the support and I hope those of you who are also unwell are ok.
