Pissed about booster jab

So received the scary NHS text saying I was going to increased complications (due to on the line BMI - no other health conditions)

So after feeling like shit I go to book an appointment. Nearest one is 35 miles away with only weekday appointments with limited availability as it is.

I'm annoyed and pissed off why scare monger then you can't realistically book an appointment it causes undue stress and anxiety to those of us who actually really don't want it!!

Anyway just a rant but has anyone had the same issue

I might be missing something here but you've said booster so you've had the first two vaccines already? If so what's the problem with having a booster?

etulosba · 12/11/2021 18:26

I have a similar problem. I do want the booster but it’s too far away.

I wondered if they were using the distance thing to restrict the take up.

CorrBlimeyGG · 12/11/2021 18:29

You're not the first person experiencing this issue. Do you have a walk in hub nearby you? They don't always show up on the booking system.

Wolfiefan · 12/11/2021 18:33

Not sure why the text was scary.
Or why you’re feeling shit.
You’re being offered extra protection. It’s a PITA if the centre is that far away. Of course they can’t offer unlimited appointments 24/7 though. Staffing etc.

squiddybear · 12/11/2021 18:33

@muldersspeedos unfortunately the first two have caused some ongoing side effects which is why I'm hesitant. I'm also scared of needles!

@CorrBlimeyGG no walks in near me anymore they all closed down in October time

I went online to book and it was 2 bus rides away. Phoned my GP and got given an appointment for today at the GP surgery 10 mins walk up the road.

You have a choice so not sure why it was a scary text.

ShowOfHands · 12/11/2021 18:38

I had mine 35 miles away and thought nothing of it. It's my nearest big hub. I combined it with a trip to buy paint and wallpaper and a wander round Dunelm.

squiddybear · 12/11/2021 18:39

@muldersspeedos for someone who suffers with extreme anxiety especially in terms of health the first line of you are at risk of increased complications was not appreciated.

The first one I got just said I was eligible under group 6 this could've said the same

Our GP have a prerecorded message saying not to call them about it

We went about 25 miles for our first jabs in Feb. I was thrilled, it was the furthest I'd been in ages. For our boosters we went to a local hub in neighbouring town. I found out later that if I hadn't clicked for needing disabled parking (for DH) I'd have been able to book at local pharmacy. Lesson learned.

Wolfiefan · 12/11/2021 19:32

You don’t have to have it.

HeartvsBrain · 12/11/2021 19:57

We were offered our boosters at our own GP practice, but the appointments were for two weeks away, so we looked up our nearest walk-in centre, it was about 20 miles away, but we do have a car, so we had them the next day. We wanted the extra protection asap, so we are very pleased that we managed to get them that much sooner. It also means that two more people who go to the same GP practice as us may be able to have theirs a bit quicker than would otherwise have been possible.

Please do agree to have your booster, and try to get it as soon as possible. Is there anything else near the vaccine centre that you could do afterwards as a treat to yourself for making the journey?

Lotusmonster · 12/11/2021 20:01

Would you rather they didn’t proactively inform you about your increased risk from the virus? Confused

Cookerhood · 12/11/2021 20:15

If you look on the government website you may find a local walk in. We are in the home counties & there are countless places to have it. I had mine in Boots.

EllzBellz41 · 29/11/2021 12:40

You do realise that the text was saying you had more risks from covid due to weight rather than the actual booster .... there was nothing scaremongering about that
