Covid/school run

So I've just tested positive for Covid (double vaccinated and relatively mild symptoms so far) and the rest of my household are currently testing negative and symptom free.

DC obviously are no longer required to self-isolate but can carry on going to school. DH can take them in the morning, but we have a problem in the afternoon. Our usual share of school runs is not keen to take DC while there is Covid in our house - which I totally understand.

Someone told me that if I had no other choice, and as it is mandatory for the DC to attend school, that I can break self-isolation for that purpose only.

Is that right? I can't find anything that actually says that, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right place...

No, you are not allowed out of isolation to do school runs, if you don’t have anyone who can do this, then DC have to stay home. Schools should be understanding on this.

It's not right, gazillions of people will come along in a bit to tell you how isolation rules trump school attendance rules (even though it doesn't say that anywhere official). But we did it on two of the days when I couldn't get anyone to walk her home.

Speak to the school - they’re dealing with this all the time
You cannot come out of isolation to do the school run

I would consult with the school.

If DC can't get there and back alone then they might suggest DC stays off rather than you risk the big fine.

(As far as I know it's still illegal to go out with covid.)

We drove round to after school club, so when no one else was around outside school, flashed the lights and they sent her out to us. No one was put at any risk.

Thanks all. Doing the school run doesn't involve me getting out of the car, so to that extent it's no greater risk to anyone else. Although, if - say - the car broke down/we were in an accident etc. then that would potentially put others at risk.
