Taking DS for his vaccine this evening, having a wobble

It's the right thing to do isn't it? He's only just turned 12. I'm CEV. I'm just worried he'll have a reaction or a blood clot or something.

Only you can decide really.

Does the child want it? Both my DC did, so decision was not mine to make. I wanted them to have it anyway but it wasn't up to me.

cowburp · 10/11/2021 14:34

That's true at 12 they can decide for themselves really

LefttoherownDevizes · 10/11/2021 14:34

OP, we all had vivid in March 2020, which caused me blood clots. DS16 is CEV and has had 2 jabs, 14 and 12yo the one, and DH and I both double AZd.

We were all far iller, for far far longer, after Covid. The DCs only symptom was a sore arm, the blood clots in young people were linked to AZ which is why they are offered Pfizer.

LefttoherownDevizes · 10/11/2021 14:35

And I had no clots after either vaccine

gamerchick · 10/11/2021 14:36

I've just watched my kid do covid. It was frightening to watch. You never know where you are from hour to hour. He was supposed to get his vaccine a few days after he tested positive. He's on the mend now but is so tired.

Kids don't get it bad my arsehole! Me and husband escaped catching it, both vaccinated.

I never ever want to witness that again. I actually felt mega fear watching him be that ill. Never seen anything like it.

Only he can make that choice OP but in your shoes I know what I'd be thinking.

Dragonfire282 · 10/11/2021 14:36

Thanks everyone.

Yes, he obviously wants to have it or he wouldn't be, I'm just worried about side effects.

It’s your/his decision but my 12 year old was keen and had no ill effects

AnguaResurgam · 10/11/2021 14:47

My DC are a bit older than yours, but none of them had anything worse than a sore arm.

Vaccine reactions are considerably less common than complications if the disease

MarshaBradyo · 10/11/2021 14:51

Ds was a bit older (16) but he was fine, no side effects at all

TinaYouFatLard · 10/11/2021 14:52

It’s your decision OP. If you are worried why don’t you research the symptoms of the side effects that worry you. You will feel more prepared and know what to look out for.

Personally we are not having our DC vaccinated but that is OUR decision.

MarshaBradyo · 10/11/2021 14:54

I also agree with pp it’s completely your choice

I know it’s hard because it feels a bit unknown, either way

my 13 yr old had her vaccine the other day & is all fine.

by getting the vaccine, your child is protecting himself and protecting you from passing on covid. the vaccines are well tested and very very safe. go for it.

Northernsoullover · 10/11/2021 15:49

I wobbled too. The way I saw it was we know in the majority most people who have it are fine, but if we were one of the rare people that can have a side effect we would be on alert for symptoms. I'd rather almost expect a reaction than take a chance with covid.

Northernsoullover · 10/11/2021 15:50

He was and is fine BTW.

Dragonfire282 · 10/11/2021 15:56

Thanks everyone, he's had it (drop in clinic so we got in early) he didn't bat an eyelid, had a good chat with the nurse and is fine so far 🤞
