How many days did you call in sick to work? I feel like the bar for calling in sick is much higher when WFH. And obviously everyone is different, but I want to know what is average.

But everyone's illness level with Covid is different 🤷🏼‍♀️

Athinginitself · 07/11/2021 16:48

It really just depends how Ill you are. I had covid pre vaccinations and had 3 months off work, friends have had anything from 0 days off to 2 weeks.

KylieKoKo · 07/11/2021 16:53

One colleague had an afternoon off and said the worst thing about getting covid was being bored another tried to come back aftera week, was clearly too sick and was given strict orders from my boss to have another week off. It varies from person to person.

It depends on what type of work you do, the flexibility of your employer and how ill you are.

I work part time and didn't have any time off for chemo or radiotherapy- I switched my hours and worked around it and lay down on the sofa when I was tired.

I had covid and took no time off. The only thing I did do was finish at 12pm the last day before we broke for xmas instead if finishing at 1PM.

I would just finish work at 5PM and go straight to bed, sleeping through till 9am ready to start work again. I also worked my duty day over the xmas break.

Charliealphatangorara · 07/11/2021 17:55

I was quite ill with it so took 5 days off. I did work through the first couple of days but it became clear to me that I was doing too much and needed to rest.

I'm a teacher and have got plenty if work I could be doing at home. My boss phoned yesterday and told me not to do anything that might make it harder to be on form when I get back. I said I'd be bored, so would work and she replied specifically not to. To be honest I don't really feel up to it today, and probably won't tomorrow either anyway.

Whendidthishappen · 07/11/2021 17:57

Totally depends on sick you are.

I do think the bar is different when you wfh.
For example when I had it, I pissed myself everytime I had a coughing fit.

I wouldn't have gone to the office in that state. But I was OK working at home.

The next two days I was to ill to do anything at all and just slept so called in sick.

negomi90 · 07/11/2021 17:58

Covid symptoms range from asymptomatic - no time off if you're working from home to ventilator - lots of time off.
How long you need off depends completely on symptoms.

CreepySpider · 07/11/2021 18:00

You need to take off however much time you need. Many/most people won’t need any time off but some will need weeks or longer.

Theforest · 07/11/2021 18:01

I informed work I had tested positive, but I carried on working from home anyway.

Strokethefurrywall · 07/11/2021 18:02

I’m on day 6 of Covid and had been isolating as my kids have it.
My symptoms started Tuesday and I felt horrendous Weds-Friday. Have only turned a corner this morning.
Will be back to WFH tomorrow probably - a good few of my team also had it before me and I was very keen to make sure they didn’t do any WFH until they felt well enough.

SummerHouse · 07/11/2021 18:03

No time off. I did make a major fuck up though, the nature of which means most of the organisation know about it. No support and no suggestion that I should take time off. In fact loads of work piled on to negotiate along with trip to test center and children off.
