Will everyone get a booster?

I don’t know if I’ve missed it but is the plan to give everyone a booster or just the original group 6?

Thanks in advance!

Groups 1-6 sorry

It's groups 1-9, group 9 was 50-54yo. I suspect everyone will get one eventually but might be a good 6-12 months away.

Given the impact a third shot seems to have on transmission I really hope so.

Also think the gov here has dropped the ball with 40 somethings as we know risk tends to kick in at 45+ not 50+ and that was pre-Delta. Delta seems to be more of a threat for younger age groups than the earlier variants.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 07/11/2021 16:58

I had mine on Friday (along with ‘flu jab).

I work in care. We all had it, us and the guys we look after.

I’d rather children were done before people like me. I had covid, it sucked but I was okay. However, I wouldn’t want a child to go through it.

CoffeeRunner · 07/11/2021 17:00

Everyone over 50 who has already had both primary doses plus those under 50 who fall into the CEV or CV categories - and have already had both primary doses.

Some of those in the CEV category will be offered a third primary dose instead of a booster. This is an identical vaccination, but you do not need to wait 6 months from your second dose before having it.

Appuskidu · 07/11/2021 17:08

I hope so. I’m under 50, but it’s been over 6 months since my 2nd jab.

I teach in a school that contains growing numbers of children with covid or with household numbers with covid. I think schools staff should be prioritised for boosters if they are over 6 months since the last, otherwise they’ll end up closing classes again through lack of staff. We have used up our supply budget for the year already.

I hope so. I am 46 and over 6 month since my second vaccination. In my areas they are struggling to get eligible people to book genie vaccination and have loads of vacant slots- so it's a bit frustrating not to be able to take the slots....

Mindymomo · 07/11/2021 19:22

I just think it would make sense to just let everyone have a booster at 6 months, no matter what age they are.

100% agree with this. Some people got spare doses very early on and now are faced with a difficult winter with lowered protection.

i really am not bothered

theres talk of a fourth jab....also heard theres a new vaccine under a different name

done with it. where will it end?

72WayTooCool · 07/11/2021 19:37

I hope so. I'm 49 and miss out on a booster by 5 weeks as you have to be 50 by 31st March 2022 to be eligible. I'd feel a lot happier if I had a booster.

NotJustACigar · 07/11/2021 19:37

I'd love to be eligible for a booster and at age 49 I'm feeling a bit unlucky with the age cut-off. I also wonder if it will end up having any implications for upcoming travel plans if I can't get a booster by say spring.

LongBeanTime · 07/11/2021 19:38

Not a chance, don't touch the stuff.

PurpleDaisies · 07/11/2021 19:38

I hope not. Worldwide vaccine equity has just disappeared.

It’ll end either when less virulent strains come out or when governments realise they can no longer continue to run a health service on a shoe string.

I'm 46 and the only reason I'm considering the booster is because I've got a holiday to Greece booked next year. I'm needle phobic so it was traumatic enough having the first 2 jabs and I certainly had no intentions of having any more! I'd rather not travel than have an injection every 6-12 months!
winterisaroundthecorner · 07/11/2021 20:33

I've seen it on other forum, that you can now book boosters if you are over 50, a month before 6 months after the second shot to accelerate the roll out.
Once that's done, I assume it will be offered to younger age groups.

I'd rather have booster than get covid. So as soon as I am eligible, I am getting it.

CrocodilesCry · 07/11/2021 21:00

You can book now (changes to website were made yesterday, though publicity says from Monday) if you're over 50 and it's been five months since your second jab, but they'll still only give you an appointment for six months from second jab.

The booster rollout has been shockingly bad and the NHS really need to sort it fast.

My DP is eligible for his next month, we live in a very large commuter town and there is nowhere here offering booster jabs! It'll be 17+mile round trip to get his which is just not good enough for the elderly, disabled people and those who can't drive/use public transport (which is crap here).

I think they will roll out the boosters to over 40s by or just after Christmas. It'll also (hopefully) have the effect of encouraging people 50 and above who haven't got round to having theirs to get them, if they're being offered to younger people.

LongBeanTime · 07/11/2021 21:07

I think more realistically, an increasing amount of the population will snub the pathetic efforts of the government to insist that people have any form of further vaccination.

This will become further evident over the course of this week as thousands of care workers will no be unemployed.

Daisy829 · 07/11/2021 21:10

I read that they are hoping to offer to over 40s in the new year. That was on a daily Mail article though so who knows!

Most 30s got a second jab in August, so it would be Feb till the 6 month is due anyway. Probably Jan for a lot of 40 somethings.
Daisy829 · 07/11/2021 21:17

Yeah I think if we get it mine will be due about January. DH is in the over 50s & he’s not due until Dec. I know they say there’s a low take up for the first vaccine was given to people with health conditions who were under 50 first but I don’t think these people are eligible for a booster yet so I wonder how accurate these figures are as people have to wait 6 months.

Chippymunks · 07/11/2021 21:23

I got mine a few days ago, I’m 52. I got covid about 6 weeks ago which was five months and a week after my last jab.

CrocodilesCry · 07/11/2021 21:48

You also have to remember that the over 70s were only actually eligible for their first jabs from mid January, so most are only fairly recently getting to six months since their second jab in April/May.

Over 50s had second jabs from late May/June, so they're due in December, over 40s will be at six months from January/February.

I do think there is a possibility they will offer over 40s a booster earlier than six months if infection rates/deaths are still bad before Christmas.

But the main aim has to be vaccinating the over 70s now and improving the booster invites/bookings and having local clinics, as at the moment it's very difficult for many older people to even get a booster near to where they live.
