Sex and the booster

loveandroses · 07/11/2021 15:41

I just had my covid vaccine booster and I was told to avoid vigorous exercise for 48 hours. Wondering what that meant exactly I asked about cycling home and the nurse said I should cycle slowly.

What is the risk with exercise (and does that include sex)?

😂😂 eh? Literally never heard of this so following with interest….

PuzzledObserver · 07/11/2021 15:46

Well in the three vaccine doses I’ve had, avoiding exercise has never been mentioned. I think your vaccinator made it up.

BertieBotts · 07/11/2021 15:50

DS age 13 was told to avoid exercise due to the Myocarditis risk. Are you male?

Deux · 07/11/2021 15:52

I’ve had all 3 vaccines and this has never been mentioned to me. I went to the gym the evening I got my booster.

loveandroses · 07/11/2021 15:54

Definitely a woman. Maybe they gave me the advice they give men?

Never been told not to exercise, was doing an online hiit class the evening after I had 1 and 2 and very intense pt the morning after.

Namenic · 07/11/2021 16:05

I’m guessing it’s because of the myocarditis risk? I guess maybe to be on the safe side avoid (but I think the risks are low either way? Definitely see a medical professional if you get chest pain, breathlessness, retaining fluid).

MrsFin · 07/11/2021 16:17

If you feel anything like I felt after having a booster on Friday (Pfizer), sex will be the last thing on your mind for 36 hours afterwards.

bumbleymummy · 07/11/2021 16:23

I remember exercise after the jab not being recommended by some countries in Europe early on. Apparently it’s not recommended in the U.K. either but maybe some people aren’t giving that advice?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/11/2021 16:24

Wouldn't be a problem for me, I've been avoiding 'vigorous exercise' for years. Wink

Cookerhood · 07/11/2021 17:03

We do tell people to take it easy after the jab but a lot say they are off to the gym!

User135644 · 07/11/2021 20:06

You shouldn't be having sex for at least a week after the booster. Probably two.

Guacamole001 · 07/11/2021 20:12

You being facetious right?

FromEden · 07/11/2021 21:41

Some countries, like Israel say to avoid exercise for a week or 2 post vaccination. Its probably more of a risk for males though.

GoodnightGrandma · 07/11/2021 21:49

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I give the vaccines and have never heard of that. And no, we weren’t telling the kids in school not to do PE.
Cycle slowly 🤣🤣🤣

name3958 · 07/11/2021 22:24

Sorry OP, think you'll have to feign a headache instead!

Well you should be. The risk of heart inflammation after vaccination might be small, but for the people that so suffer from it abstaining from exercise is vital.
Warhertisuff · 08/11/2021 10:58

But those having boosters are over 50? Having Sex AND being over 50?! What is the world coming to...where are my pearls!

Does sex necessarily involve "vigorous exercise"?

Good heavens no, I just mentally join up the Artex blobs on the ceiling to make interesting animals and things.

loveandroses · 08/11/2021 13:58

I was wondering the same. I guess if you enjoy it then your heart rate will go up a lot even if you are flat on your back and it seems to be the heart that they are worried about. TMI?

It does if you're doing it right! Grin

Chesneyhawkes1 · 08/11/2021 17:08

I had mine yesterday afternoon and exercised after.

And I've been running today. The leaflet they gave me doesn't say not to

ittakes2 · 08/11/2021 17:09

My son's school gave the jan on the thursday and then most the year group did the duke of edinburgh walk on the Sat/Sun walking about 30kms. As parents we were not keen but they hadn't at that time announced covid catchup clinics for the teens, so it was kind of a case of accept the jab or have no idea when their next chance to have it was.

altmember · 08/11/2021 18:50

This is why: www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-myocarditis-and-pericarditis-information-for-healthcare-professionals/information-for-healthcare-professionals-on-myocarditis-and-pericarditis-following-covid-19-vaccination

It's pretty rare, but exercise is definitely an aggravating factor if you do get it.
I contacted my daughters school and told them she couldn't participate in PE for a few days after having her vaccination. PE teacher still told her it was fine and to get on with it.
