DD still gets breathless after exertion (walking up stairs). She had covid over two weeks ago.

I'm reluctant to be the voice of doom, but DS17 had Covid just over a year ago.

He still comes in from school and falls asleep with exhaustion some days. He's not breathless, however, but never was.

WhatHaveIFound · 06/11/2021 17:11

DD took a couple of months to fully recover. DS has long covid so it's over 13 months now and he's still gets out of breath. Both in their teens.

JuneOsborne · 06/11/2021 17:14

My Ds had covid. His isolation ended on 28th October. He played a hockey match today and struggled. He says he sometimes feels like he's struggling to catch a breath when he's not exerting himself. We're trying to let him rest, feed him decent food and giving him a daily vitamin D supplement.

AlexaShutUp · 06/11/2021 17:16

DD tested positive about five weeks ago. She made what I thought was a full recovery in just a few days, but we have realised since then that she still gets out of breath much more quickly than she did before.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 06/11/2021 17:17

DS3 (16) tested positive mid-August.
he had his 1st jab just 5 days prior so already had been ill when he woke up with no sense of smell & taste.
He'd also had a lingering ear infection which turned into a really bad ear perforation, he was deaf for a month on that ear.

we don't know if the ear thing had anything to do with Covid.
So don't know how to assess his recovery time.
He had a final check up Monday, ear drum is fully healed, remaining scab removed.

If we disregard the ear problem I'd say he recovered from Covid in 2 weeks.
But he still can't smell or taste anything apart from sweet/salty/sour

Week or so, asthmatic well controlled on steroid inhaler. Plays football No residual after effects I’ve noticed

Warhertisuff · 06/11/2021 17:39

About 2 days... Not sure that's a help to those for whom it's taking a long time, but wanted to provide some perspective.

bumblefeline · 06/11/2021 18:00

A few days for my 14 year old. My 19 year was about a week, but her sense off smell was weird for a while.

Fireblanket · 06/11/2021 18:12

15 year old was off colour for about five days.

JanglyBeads · 06/11/2021 20:27

It obviously varies hugely. Not defined as long COVID until symptoms have continued for 12+ weeks.

I know this having recently consulted a dr about my DS14 who’s still got (low level) problems after 6 weeks.

Xiaoxiong · 06/11/2021 21:20

In a teenage boarding house of 50 or so, 13 got covid in late Sept. All back to normal bar one - the "index case" as far as they can tell - who is still getting unusually tired and a bit breathless at the end of a full day of school and sport. Apart from the "index case" none of the others developed significant symptoms, most of the cases were picked up by the twice weekly LFTs and confirmed by PCRs.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/11/2021 21:22

3 weeks

Justgivemewine · 06/11/2021 21:57

Ds was really ill for 2 weeks and at the beginning of October, he seems to be fully recovered apart from his sense of taste and smell not being back to normal.

Spiceup · 06/11/2021 21:59

DS2 spent 1 day in bed and was back to normal

flashbac · 07/11/2021 09:24

Thanks for the replies. DD was only in bed with acute symptoms for a day but the fatigue seems to have persisted.

I think it’s varied for each child, but two dc, one slightly fatigued fit a couple of days the other one week with more symptoms (vaccine but older)

Ledkr · 07/11/2021 17:24

Dd 19 had it in the summer and is still.not right. Breathless and literally one cold after another.
She is a dance student so really affecting her but struggling to get gp to take it seriously

fadingfast · 07/11/2021 20:44

DS (17) had it a couple of weeks ago. He had mild symptoms for a day or so and after that he was completely fine. He had his first (only) jab in August.

Theforest · 07/11/2021 20:49

DS15 only had mild cold symptoms and recovered in a couple of days.

dementedma · 07/11/2021 20:51

About 3 weeks

GiveMeDreamies · 07/11/2021 20:55

My teens had it just over 3 weeks ago. They're still both more tired than usual and haven't returned to their hobby yet (energetic sport). Also still lost taste and smell.

Porcupineintherough · 08/11/2021 00:39

Ds1 has had COVID twice. He wasnt particularly I'll either time but the first time it took him 4 months or so to get back to 100% - mostly he'd be fine then the cough would come back and he'd be knackered again. Second time it presented as a cold and he was better within a week.

Silkieschickens · 08/11/2021 00:46

About 2 weeks for then 15 year old DD, got before vaccines were an option.

WhatHaveIFound · 08/11/2021 08:04

It took 6 months for DS's doctor to acknowledge he had long covid and 12 months will be up before we're even given an appointment (or so we're told). If you feel it is this I'd keep persuing the GP as the sooner your DD gets referred the better.
BlackInk · 08/11/2021 12:00

DS 12 was moderately unwell with temp, body aches, headache, vomiting and fatigue for just under a week but functioning pretty normally by the time his isolation ended. We kept things easy for a few days after that - normal home activities, fresh air and walks but not much else - then back to school etc. It was half term so that enabled him to take his time to recover. He's been fine since but looks a bit washed out still and sleeping a bit more.
