Anyone not getting the booster?

I am very much not a sceptic/ covid denier! Followed all the rules and got my first 2 jabs.

I am due my booster at the end of the month. I am mid thirties and have mild asthma that put me in the eligible group first time round. My doctor friend told me that mild asthma isn’t really seen as a complicating factor in covid.
After my second Pfizer jab I was ill for about a week, I was also waking up drenched in sweat for 2 weeks after. It seriously disrupted my sleep and how I felt.
I have worked in schools throughout covid (long before the vaccine) and it has been rife and I’ve never been symptomatic if I have caught it.
I’ve heard several people with side effects from the Pfizer booster and I feel really wary about having it.
At this point it feels that for me personally the vaccine is more likely to cause me immediate issues than covid. I would be amazed if I haven’t had it asymptomatically as every other member of staff has had it over the past 2 years!

What would you do if you were me?

Oh and I meant to add a large incentive the last time was protecting others but now everyone who wants it has been offered their jabs and recent studies show vaccinated still pass it on so I feel less incentive to do it to help others now.

That's not exactly what studies show. I'd take the jab in a heartbeat.

You may not even be called up for a booster being under 50 and your athsma only mild. As things stand at the moment you don't fit the booster criteria eligibility. I suspect you and many others are in the same boat.

AvocadoAndToast · 06/11/2021 14:06

@ColettesEarrings but why? I’m statistically very low risk from covid, have more than likely already had it asymptomatically as it’s been rife at school and the jabs I have had have made me unwell.
T cell immunity won’t just disappear in the blink of an eye at the 6 month period and I just don’t see the logic in getting another jab my body reacts badly too for what is likely to be a mild illness at worse for me. That’s what I’m looking for advice on.

Ahh hopefully won’t be an issue then. I was so surprised to have been called early last time. I was told my surgery did it for anyone on the flu jab list.

My DH has mild asthma, we caught Covid in half term and his asthma flared up and made recovery much harder for him. He spent 2 days in hospital to help him manage his symptoms. I'd grab the booster and protect yourself as much as possible.

RachC2021 · 06/11/2021 18:01

If offered the booster in your circs OP I’d take it. But I wouldn’t stress if not offered it.

HPFA · 06/11/2021 18:07

Not intending to at the moment.

I had post menopausal bleeding after each jab and the thought of going through the investigations again is horrific. It could have been a coincidence but at the moment I'm not going to risk it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/11/2021 19:32

I'm under 50 and so won't be getting one any time soon but I'll probably get this booster if it's offered but I won't be having an injection every 6 months or even annually. I'm needle phobic and I'm not putting myself through it any more than I have to.

My husband had mild asthma. He caught covid last year and sadly died. He was fit and healthy, never had an asthma attack and rarely used his inhaler. He was on a ventilator for 7 weeks and was given every possible treatment. It didn’t work. If you’re offered the booster take it

2boysand1princess · 07/11/2021 13:07

OP, If you have asthma and already on the flu jab list, then chances are your risks aren’t as low as someone who has never been called for the flu jab or has mild asthma. Personally I’d take it if I was offered the booster especially since you get the flu jab anyway as surely that has the potential to have some side effects too?
Also get an antibody test to see if you have had covid. My friend works in a large secondary school and has been exposed throughout, she was convinced she had it. She doesn’t have antibodies though, whereas I know so many who had covid more than a year ago now and we still show antibodies.

I'm under 50 and won't be getting the booster if ever offered. I caught covid 6 weeks ago and was just as poorly as my unjabbed hubby. The thought of having constant injections every 6 months just doesn't sit right with me either when you can catch it and still spread it .

So sorry about your husband Flowers

I’ve got Covid now. Double jabbed with Pfizer, no health problems. It’s been absolutely awful and I really wasn’t prepared for feeling so unwell.

Take the booster.
