I need it done before Friday, or I will lose my job.

I had the Astra one originally but nowhere around here is doing it as a second vaccine! No idea what to do 😩😩

You have probably tried this but on case it helps. The nhs has a list of walk-in centres and, more importantly, what vaccines they have available.

I don't know where you are based but near me, in the West of Kent, there are at least 2 centres doing the AZ second doses (albeit with a little travel).

Jinnybean · 05/11/2021 16:43

Yep that’s where Iv looked as well :( closest is 40 miles away and I can’t get there 😩

Are any local pharmacies doing it?

Bokky · 05/11/2021 16:46

Where are you located? In my area there are regular pop up clinics offering first and second vaccines, both Pfizer and AZ.

Gladioli23 · 05/11/2021 16:47

So AZ is not the standard option available any more, and most areas will only have the odd irregular clinic for them. It is worth asking your local CCG as they should know where any local stocks are and be able to direct you to someone who can offer a clinic.

If they don't have any clinics running soon, you may wish to look at alternative options. E.g. If you will otherwise lose your job you might be able to get a clinician to offer you a Pfizer/Moderna vaccine for your second on the grounds unemployment is very bad for your health.

Midgetwithaplan · 05/11/2021 16:48

Is there a walk in vaccination clinic? As far as I'm aware you can have an alternative vaccine for your second jab if the first one isn't available, or give 119 a call and see if they can suggest where you might be able to get one

Wellbythebloodyhell · 05/11/2021 16:54

Out of curiosity why have you not been for your second vaccine before now? You knew this ultimatum was coming not saying i agree with it btw why wait until last minute?

CorrBlimeyGG · 05/11/2021 17:01

Where is your closest city?

It is difficult to get the AZ one now. I eventually found a walk in that offers it, I was the only person waiting for the AZ (that they had a separate area for) but still had to wait in the hour long queue.

EnglishRose1320 · 05/11/2021 17:05

Can you try and book a different one for your second. I know some people that have had to have a mix for various reasons, one person was an inpatient when they were due the second and the hospital could only offer a different one but said it was fine.

Cookerhood · 05/11/2021 17:39

Go to a walk in & discuss it. Non availability is one of the reasons for mixing (& you'll probably have better cover as a bonus!)

SnarkyBag · 05/11/2021 18:27

Took me ages to find somewhere doing 2nd AZ doses. Best chance is to look for walk in places under you local area (not via the nhs site) and surrounding areas you can get to. Keep checking daily as the one I found would be closed one week and then open for 2 to 3 days the next.

I found my local walk in’s on local gov website

MercyBooth · 05/11/2021 19:04

This is why the Government and media ramp up the vaccine refusenik rhetoric to cover up the lack of availability. I tried to get my second vaccine six weeks ago and was refused because i was told they now cant mix them (i had Moderna and they are now doing Pfizer) i was advised to go to the next town either relying on a crap bus service or a taxi at £35 each way. Sorry no chance. Ppl on another thread were a bit disbelieving so im going to have another go tomorrow and maybe do a bit of filming. because ppl be like "cool story bro it never happened" and if you film it its "how dare you do that"

Mixing vaccines have never been an option, its not a new thing. Only in extreme medical circumstances has mixing vaccines been approved for 1st and 2nd doses.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 05/11/2021 19:33

Your local GP run walk in vaccination centre more likely to have AZ as it is being given as booster for those that cannot have Pfizer due to multiple allergies.

MercyBooth · 05/11/2021 19:35

Fair enough @Wellbythebloodyhell Pity we dont hear as much about that as we do the refusenik rhetoric. It would seem that certain misinformation is allowed!

Do you really have to say "refusenik rhetoric" ? It's ... incorrect and offensive.

Have you checked to see if your local council or ccg have any schemes to help pay for transport to vaccines?

It's always been allowed if the original vaccine is unavailable or there is a danger that the patient may not return if not offered an alternative. Some sites interpret this differently to others.

Cookerhood · 06/11/2021 08:41

From the green guide:
For individuals who started the schedule and who attend for vaccination where the same
vaccine is not considered suitable or if the first product received is unknown or not
available, it is reasonable to offer one dose of the locally available product to complete the
primary course. This option is preferred if the individual is likely to be at immediate high
risk or is considered unlikely to attend again.

MercyBooth · 07/11/2021 01:40

Tried again. Same outcome.

Mossstitch · 07/11/2021 19:53

Research now shows that phfizer after AZ shows best antibody results so I'd just go for that if any easier to get🤷 not that I agree with the forced vaccinations, especially as double vaccinated people are contracting covid in such numbers and it has been proved you are still contagious. I'm NHS and only had one AZ following covid in march 2020. In many European countries that counts as fully vaxed, still not sure what to do if that rule also brought in for NHS as I react particularly badly to vaccinations, always have not just covid! They are already desperately short staffed so the effects of that ruling could be catastrophic!!

Powerpotpie · 19/11/2021 11:13

Hi OP

I don’t know if you managed to get your 2nd AZ? But just to let you know that if you go into your local walk-in vaccination centre you will likely now be offered Pfizer or Moderna as there are very limited supplies of AZ.
