What is covid like now, after vaccinations

For people who ha e experience with covid either themselves or their families or through work -

For people who's testing positive -

What is covid like as an infection?

From reading the mumsnet.com forums I gather the infection is different for everyone. Some people are having no symptoms and others have cold symptoms and other people have flu type sickness lasting for a week or more.

I want to get some sort of an idea as to what covid is like now?

I'm on a different forum and the general tone is there's no need for mitigation now after vaccines because it's just a mild dose of the sniffles.

Our family has just had Covid. Both my husband and myself are double jabbed.

He started with sinus pain and a blocked nose, then lost his sense of smell and developed a slight cough. He was able to function as normal at home. He also has an underlying condition.

I caught it from him. Mine started with a really sore throat (like swallowing knives) and a runny nose that developed into headaches, fatigue, productive cough, burning sensation up my nose, aching muscles, loss of smell and taste, chest tightness, diarrhoea, nausea, and a fever.
I was totally wiped out, I stayed in bed for 5 days straight. Then for the next 2/3 days could only be out of bed for a couple of hours before needing a rest.
I am better now but still needing to have really early nights. I have no known underlying condition and am fit and healthy generally.

I had COVID end of July, I had my jabs March and May, I started with a drip of sweat going down my back, four hours later I was in bed sweating, shivering, aches and pains, headache, Next day had a temperature of 39.5, a headache so bad it made my vision go blurry, The cough arrived on day three as did the loss of taste and smell, around day 5 my fever had dropped and headache had lessened, I then had tightness in the chest, that lasted about a day, by around day 7, I was starting to feel better, My taste and smell has not fully recovered yet and my breathing is a bit short when I walk the dogs still, But never mind it’s just like the flu, NOT !!!

There were several cases at DS's school recently and a few of the parents caught it. Quite a variety of experiences - from asymptomatic to very mild symptoms to a bad head cold right up to totally wiped out and very achy for many days. The most common symptoms were headache, sore throat and aching; none reported breathing issues. Our household escaped very lightly: DH was asymptomatic and I had very mild symptoms, just a bit of a headache and sore throat for a couple of days. I have a couple of risk factors and I'm over 6 months past my 2nd jab, so it was a pleasant surprise.

Also know a couple in their 70s who have recently tested positive. She was on the original shielding list due to severe asthma so we were all really worried. They're a week on from their positive test and are still symptom-free which is amazing. They had their boosters about 3 weeks ago so maybe that's really helped.

My husband is recovering presently and was really poorly. He's double jabbed and no underlying health conditions. He says it's the worst he's ever felt and I was very concerned at one point.

Sallydimebar · 04/11/2021 18:18

Tested positive last week myself ,Dh and Ds both double jabbed .Ds 11 so not jabbed . Dh very poorly headache, continuous cough was in bed most of it . Felt bit better day 10 awful day 11 and lousy again today .I’m on day 9 had stinging eyes for a day last week .Ds day 8 tired , temp 37.9/38 .

Did lfts last night myself and Dh negitive ,Ds pos but 2nd line did take longer to appear so I’m reading that as virus not as strong in him now could be wrong .Last week Dh 2nd line was there in a matter of seconds.

TheVampiresWife · 04/11/2021 18:24

Both DH and I were asymptomatic. Especially reassuring as I have an autoimmune disease and am immunosuppressed due to medication.

Bimblesalong · 04/11/2021 18:38

Double jabbed and thank goodness for that. Due my booster but covid got me first. Wiped out and bedridden for a week. Still exhausted three weeks later and having to go very easy.

Get the vaccines and the boosters!

Anothermuddywalk · 04/11/2021 19:03

My husband currently has it - started as a bad headache then cold symptoms. He spent the first day mostly in bed but has been able to get up and work at his computer since. Has waves of feeling worse and goes to lie down for a bit, but says mostly just feels like a bad cold.

HerRoyalWitchyness · 04/11/2021 19:08

I had covid in March, before I'd had any vaccination. I felt rough. Like I'd been kicked in the chest by a horse, exhausted, could barely catch my breath, coughing, headache, ached all over.

I have it again now.
This time my only symptoms are exhaustion and loss of smell/taste which weirdly I didn't have last time. Its rather strange not being able to taste food.

DS1 has had his vaccine in school, but has covid now. His is bad enough to be causing asthma attacks, one so bad we ended up in hospital. He's achy and tired too but improving daily.

DD and DS2, both positive, have no symptoms at all and are both too young to have been vaccinated.

SchoolForScoundrels · 04/11/2021 19:14

DD and I have it now, both suffering with a nasty cold/flu/nausea bug. DS and DP have escaped.

DD has only had one jab (teenager), and I was sure my booster next week whereas DP and DS had their second jabs a couple of months ago. We think they have stronger protection hence escaping it.

Partner has it. He's been in bed for 5 days with hefty 'flu' type symptoms. Exhausted, sleeping a lot of the day, brain fog, fever and shivers. He's managed one online meeting since Monday. He's double jabbed with AZ and has an auto immune condition.

I have had a positive LFT this morning and feel awful (awaiting PCR). If this is covid, then I've had a headache for a few days, but today it has ramped up. Drugs not touching it. Sore throat and brain fog and very achey legs. Shivers started around 7pm. I did an hour's work this morning to cover my classes. Am double Pfizered, 6 months ago (had booster appt for next Wednesday) and have a blood clotting disorder.

I hope you both feel better soon Flowers

I’m double jabbed, on day 4 of isolation and feel like I have an extremely mild cold. I don’t have a temperature.

However, I’ve also lost my sense of taste and smell, which has been by far the worst bit for me.

junebirthdaygirl · 07/11/2021 20:23

In recovery . Had vaccine but no booster. First sign was total exhaustion. Then shivers, pains and weakness. Could barely make bed to bathroom as so weak. Then cough, sinuses . Didn't lose taste or smell and didn't notice any breathing difficulties. In bed completely for a week. 6 weeks on still bit weak but getting there. Was like a bad flu. Dh didn't get in or ds who lives at home. Other contacts who got it or passed it to me had anything from no symptoms to headaches. Nothing too bad.
Glad to be vaccinated. Was like a bad flu l got a few years ago.

junebirthdaygirl · 07/11/2021 20:24

Should add feel anxious since and that's not regular for me. A sort of red alert feeling at all times which isn't nice.

ParishSpinster · 07/11/2021 20:33

I've had covid twice - March last year and now.

Symptoms similar - breathless, flu type fever and exhaustion. Cough.

Last year was worse though- cough was relentless then. And I struggled breathing on the worst day.

I am day 6 this time round. No longer feverish or fluey. Very tired and it is exhausting just getting out of bed.

ParishSpinster · 07/11/2021 20:34

To add: im doubled vaxxed now.

Freetodowhatiwant · 07/11/2021 20:39

I have it at the moment, around day 11. I’ve been able to function but it’s a really nasty virus. Double jabbed (April and June) with AstraZeneca. Had a mild cough, no temperature but lots of aching and tiredness. Still feel exhausted walking upstairs but on the flat i am ok. Feel cold and tired. My parents have had it too. Mum, 78, has recovered more quickly than my dad who is 82 and still getting temperatures and aches on about day 6. I just hope it doesn’t get worse for him. They are both jabbed too.
