Covid-19 and Fitbit Recording

I’m on day 3 being positive with Covid and since day 1 my Fitbit has been recording high heart BPM pretty much all day. I’ve been burning fat (over 100) for over 10 hours so far today even though I’ve not been off the sofa. A quick google tells me this is quite common, especially with my specific symptoms, but what I want to know is if this is really ok? Will there be any long term damage? I’m reading about people who had this for months. 😳

I think it’s normal with any virus for your heart rate to go up- especially if you have a fever. Every time I get sick the day before I have a massive spike in my resting heart rate. I wouldn’t worry unless your heart rate gets dangerously high.
Having said that I’m no expert, so there are probably others here with more detailed advice…

Whats your heart rate been ?

Ruffledcardigan · 03/11/2021 20:00

I get it with every virus on my Fitbit. I wouldn’t panic.

Completely normal to have a raised heat rate when your body is fighting any virus. You often see a slightly raised heart rate before any other indicator. I'm on Day 11 today and my heart rate has steadily returned to normal within the last 2-3 days after being elevated since I tested positive.

A couple of my work colleagues have had similar post 3rd vaccination, resolves after 24 -36 hours or so

If resting rate above 100 consistantly you need to discuss with GP, 111 etc. If you have a fever this can cause raisong but paracetmol should bring both fever amd heart rate down. If heart rate is still high i would get checked out (it may be ok but better to check)

I learnt something recently...
I had an awful bout of Norovirus at the end of last month and spent the whole day and previous evening in bed literally could not move for feeling sick or vomiting. Only dragging myself up to go for a wee when needed.
I noticed my Fitbit was recording my heart rate at above 100 for pretty much the whole day while I was laid in bed asleep and resting.
I was TOTALLY freaked out so I called 111. A duty doctor spoke to me and explained that because your body is fighting of a 'virus' it increases your heart rate, and for me the main thing was dehydration! I never even knew that being dehydrated made your heart rate go up.
He explained that because your dehydrated there is less water/fluid in your blood so there for your blood is a lot thicker and gloopier so your heart has to work harder to lump the blood around your body!
I was stunned.
After drinking lots and lots of water it soon returned to normal within 48 hours.
If your worried ring 111 😊 Good luck op x

It's pretty normal during any kind of virus or infection, especially if you have a fever. My partner had a serious autoimmune illness last year (close to death) and her heart rate was constantly high for several months throughout the recovery.

whatswithtodaytoday · 04/11/2021 07:04

I know someone with long Covid whose heart rate is like this, and has been for 18 months now. It improves but then gets high again.

Bobholll · 04/11/2021 12:56

Completely normal with any virus. I get this with just colds! But with covid it was 120+ for 5/6 days. Although it did drop if I was completely rested to 100ish. Any movement & it’d be back up.

Probably explains why I could eat a pack of biscuits yet lose weight with covid 😂 every cloud & all that ..
