My dh and dc got covid first. I tested positive on day 6 of our confinement. I had temperature going up and down for 4 days, shivers, a lot of cough and congestion. Yesterday i thought i was getting better (apart from this irritable cough) however the cough keeps waking me up at night time. It feels like a trickle on my chest or back fo throat, i start coughing so badly until i spit enoumous amounts of white foamy secretions. there is so much that i thought this would be vomit however it doesn't taste/smell acidic and there are no food residues either. Cough is mostly dry but sometimes i cough some thick yellow phlegm.
I also have like a background headache on my head all the time and feel wiped out of energy. I have slept all morning (as i didn't sleep much after 4am) and i feel worse than before.
My manager must be thinking i am having the time of my life self-isolating all this long, and he has informed my that upon my return on Friday, i am also working on the weekend.
I dont know if I am just becoming anxious at my symptoms not improving. Should i contact a doctor or should i wait a few more days?

I'm Day 7 as well. When T&T called me last week they said that if at any point I get worried about my symptoms I should call 111. Give them a call if you are worried. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Try 111 - can you take your temperature and do you have or can you borrow a pulse ox too?

my temperature is ok for the past few days. I dont know anyone with a pulse ox.
There is no 111 in northern Ireland so i would need to call out of hours GP. my experience is that they either tell you to wait until you can see your GP if you are well and if you are too unwell, go to A&E.

Go to A and E and specifically mention the white foamy stuff at night. That is important and may need treatment

Porcupineintherough · 01/11/2021 19:00

I'm not sure the OP needs a&e, though she might want to speak to the gp.

OP is your saliva also frothy? That can be a sign of dehydration so drink lots and lots and dont forget to get a little salt and sugar in too.

It is quite usual to still feel completely awful on day 7 and - pre vaccine, not sure about now - totally normal to feel worse in the second week than the first. If you feel worse every day by all means check in with your gp. If you are rough but managing you may find you turn the corner on about day 10.
Drink plenty. Rest up. Work can go swivel wait.

Porcupineintherough · 01/11/2021 19:01

Oh sorry in case I wasnt clear. I spat up plenty of white foamy sputum and the foam was due to dehydration.

Northernsoullover · 01/11/2021 19:05

Do you have a Samsung phone? Mine has an oximeter

chachachachachange · 01/11/2021 20:44

i rang GP out of hours who told me to ring my GP tomorrow.
The foamy stuff is definitely not saliva, its like phlegm but in liquid form and very large amounts that i cough up during the night.
Fingers crossed this is just my chest clearing itself.

I have calmed myself down and i am thinking that it is ok to have another few days of physical and mental rest. I am tired of doing nothing but my brain and my body are not there yet, so more anxiety is not going to make any good.
It's crazy how i wanted to think that being young, healthy and with no PMH i would be up and running after 2 days. It doesn't help that a few people i know were asymptomatic.

Sounds fairly typical OP. Not really sure what you are coughing up, might warrant checking .. I ended up on antibiotics with covid but for a sinus infection. I had dark green snot pouring out my nose and it was so bad, it made me choke at night. The pain was also hellish!

Typical, chest infections present with the same green crap just coughed up from your lungs. My GPS always said if my kids have horrible, dark phlegm, it’s an infection. If it’s clear or pale, it’s not.

But the headaches & fatigue & feeling generally shite are pretty normal from my experience. I’m 4 weeks post covid & it took 3 weeks to fully recover. I’m fine now. Still can’t smell properly but it’s coming back slowly!
