dd finally has an operation date - how long should I keep her off school (covid)?

dd15 has finally got an operation date to fix her knee. She's been waiting for a few months now. We have a PCR test three days before the op date. I am tempted to keep her off school as long as possible before hand but what do you think is reasonable? They've had a few covid cases but not many. Neither she or I want to miss this operation! The school are happy for her to do online learning while she's off.

We were told by the hospital to keep ours off for 10 days beforehand with a pcr test 3 days before and full isolation after that til the op.

Thank you. They didn't say this to me, and it wasnt in the letter, but that is exactly what I was expecting.

I am being sensible booking her first vaccination for tomorrow aren't I? I am paranoid I am going to do something wrong and then she won't be able to have it for some reason

Thank you. I promise you I am a sensible woman over 50 and with a full time job, not a complete idiot but this has confused the hell out of me

It sounds extremely stressful. Smile

I would keep her off in this situation. At least from the end of this week.

Let's say covid starts going round the school. They don't have to tell you, so you may not know. She has her last day on 12th November, but what you don't know she she got infected that day. She starts showing symptoms 5 days after that (fairly typical timing) and she then has to isolate from 17th November for 10 days.

So work backwards 22nd November (to be free from infection), to avoid that then you need the last day she could start showing symptoms to be 12th November, not the last day she sees anyone. So I'd reckon the chances are very high that she would be fine to do this week (giving 7 day incubation) but I wouldn't do the next week.
You could also do a pcr on day 11 so if she was positive then the isolation was up by 22nd. I think doing a pcr for an op is allowed?

However I'd make it a condition that she works very hard over the time before the op to give her some light days afterwards.
