How to get 12yo with covid to eat?

So despite us thinking we had got through covid totally uninfected littlest DD (12) tested positive on Saturday (5 days before her vaccine was due!!).

She seemed ok at first, just headache and tired but from Saturday she has barely eaten, she looks absolutely washed out. We have fully stocked fridge, freezer and cupboards so endless choices but she doesn't want anything. Yesterday she ate 2 fishfingers and an ice pop. She won't even have tomato soup which is one of her favourites.

Any ideas on how I can encourage her to eat something? I'm getting quite worried now.

@FfsAlexa

Could this be PANDAS?
???

I am not a medical person. It's just something I've stumbled along before.

@SpookyScarySkeletons

We are both positive now too :(
Ah bloody hell spooky

Please don't worry. There's ever chance you will have mild or no symptoms. Our whole house just had it and only DP could be described as ill. And even he has been up and about, only putting the dressing gown of doom on once. Flowers

It's not unusual to go off food when you're unwell. Symptoms of PANDAs in the link below. Not exactly similar to what op is describing.

So sorry!! This was the wrong thread. I'd read a thread a while ago about a girl who hadn't eaten for a long period of time after covid and they were treated as a eating disorder ... thought it was that thread. Apologies again!!!

LubaLuca · 01/11/2021 20:23

I'm sorry you've tested positive as well, op. One of my teens tested positive yesterday, and luckily has a reasonable appetite still. I always just want to feed them up when they're ill, so I feel your worry. Yazoo milkshake is going down well here, the little bottles with Minions on Grin

winterisaroundthecorner · 01/11/2021 20:27

Just let her eat whatever she fancies. Just make sure she is drinking enough, whatever, juice, water, etc.

newtabnewtab · 01/11/2021 20:35

I do things like rice mixed with bolognese as it is soft and mushy, and get them to watch TV as they are more likely to eat while distracted. My dc lose weight really quickly so the advice about just liquids doesn't work for us unfortunately! Get well soon, all of you

I totally feel like I need the dressing gown of doom @SummerHouse 😂😂 definitely heading to bed soon!

She is doing a bit better with water now too which is a relief.

Yep I agree with not pushing the food. I knew exactly what I wanted to eat and when and would have felt worse if presented with things I didn't fancy (that was with some very odd mystery illness about 20 years ago that was never diagnosed...in Hong Kong). Same with DS now when he had covid. Flat Fanta or ribena were amazing!

whitehorsesdonotlie · 01/11/2021 21:41

Ds felt sick for the first few days of Covid and was off his food. Just offer water little and often. Don't make her eat if she doesn't want to - especially creamy drinks!

Hope she feels better soon.
