Unvaccinated, positive and scared

I have just tested positive for covid, I am as of yet unvaccinated (please don't lynch me for the decision, anxiety has played a massive part in my hesitation, ironically 🙄)
I have had, what feels like a cold since Tuesday, daily lateral flows have been negative until today. Had a PCR test which I am pretty certain will also be positive.
I am absolute petrified right now, keep randomly crying, am isolating in the bedroom and really missing the kids, struggling with not seeing the youngest (we have a very special bond, she has pulled me through the toughest times when I lost my mum and sister to cancer 😢)
I know there is a very mixed bag of symptoms, with both vaccinated and unvaccinated, so far I have a sore throat and headache. It does feel like my throat feels tight and I can't get a full breath, I think that's more the anxiety and panic.
Right now I could really do with some reassurance from people that aren't yet vaccinated and been ok.
We recently lost my mil after she was double vaccinated so all I have is horror stories going around my head 😢

@mummyofthreemunchkins I couldn’t read an run..

1). Please don’t think about the vaccine decision now..it started off as virtue signalling and then on to becoming a political scoring point to gif knows what it is now. You can decide on what’s best for you when you are ready.

2). Rest as much as possible and keep your self hydrated

3). Ask your daughters to help if they can else try to organise help now so that you don’t have to worry about food etc

4). It’s easier said than done but please don’t read about the symptoms etc but if you feel unwell call the right channels 111 etc and ask them to guide you.

Hope you feel better soon..

PrincessNutNuts · 30/10/2021 19:36

It's mild for most younger people lovely.

Rest, hydrate, distract yourself with something gripping on Netflix etc if you can.

Statistically you are likely to be fine.

Easier said than done I know.

SandysMam · 30/10/2021 19:38

I am CEV and had it pre-vaccine and was fine. Please try not to panic. Just rest as much as possible.

Serenschintte · 30/10/2021 20:02

All good advice. You could also get a finger oxygen monitor - sometimes the gps will lend you one.
You can still get Covid vaccinated.
Now you will have natural immunity which is actually better.
Hope you feel better soon.

PamelaAnderson · 30/10/2021 20:03

I’ve had it twice without the vaccine.

Lots of people with the vaccine have got covid.

I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Lots of people have died but we know it’s not bad for most people.

Your choice not to get the vaccine.

mummyofthreemunchkins · 30/10/2021 20:03

Thank you everyone, the posts are reassuring.
We do have a lot of pre prepped dinners ready luckily, just get out the freezer and throw in the slow cooker type, and we'll stocked up on meds and vitamins so feel prepped on that front, bit totally not prepped mentally.
The last few weeks I was resigned to the fact of its when it comes into the house rather than if it comes into the house, and for that reason was building myself up for calling the doctor to talk through the concerns re the jab.

Bless you, I'm sure you'll be fine. I understand the anxiety that can stem from grief and you can feel paralysed with health decisions.

Its not the same I know as I'm double jabbed but I tested positive last week. Had a couple of very poorly days but started to pull round after that. I know it's not the flu but was like the flu to me.

As much rest as you can, keep your fluids up and an eye on your oxygen sats if you can get a cheap pulse ox from Amazon. Flowers

MaudebeGonne · 30/10/2021 20:07

My husband didn't get vaccinated - I think his health anxiety due to a previous serious illness played a huge part in that. He got Covid this Summer and he was fine - a few days with the symptoms of a bad cold, but a great recovery. Drink plenty of water and take paracetamol and ibuprofen if needed. The medito app is free and has some good guided meditation or sleep stories/white noise if you need something to calm yourself. Best of luck.

Cornettoninja · 30/10/2021 20:12

I’m not in the demographic you really want to hear from but I did want to offer a hand hold and some reassurance. The vast majority of people who catch covid (vaccinated or not) are fine. It’s an illness and just like the majority of illnesses you’ve had in your lifetime you’ll likely get through it just fine.

Do get an oximeter and please don’t talk yourself out of contacting your GP/111/119 if you start feeling anxious about your progression. Let the medical professionals judge whether or not support is needed and try not to minimise symptoms to compensate for your anxiety.

It’s a shit time and a shit virus but you have statistics on your side and healthcare should you need it. Flowers

It's so hard, and it was losing my dad suddenly to pancreatic cancer that started my health anxiety journey, and then losing my sister and mum to cancer so close together hasn't helped. And it's times like this that make it so much harder when I would usually call my mum, she had an amazing knack of just talking about nothing in particular, she knew that what she was doing was reducing my anxiety. Never really figured that out until she wasn't here anymore and went on a 3 day anxiety attack 😢 hence my youngest becoming my absolute rock, she was 1 when I lost my sister and 18 months when I lost mum, she is the distraction I needed when I needed it the most ❤️ Sorry, just realised I'm babbling 😂

I'm double jabbed and still got it, whole household got it except for one, My oldest daughter unvaccinated, had hardly any symptons, I know it's worrying, but try and keep focused on getting well eating little and often if necessary and stay hydrated, I found this really helped. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, that's very reassuring! I'm glad he was ok! I think we've heard for so long all the horror stories they are the ones that stick. I am off to check out that app!

Make sure you have an oximeter and use it. You could also take garlic, echinacea and Berocca, all of which are good against viral infections

Thank you, I'm not feeling very hungry at the moment, bit keeping up with fluids! You never know, might help with my stagnated weight loss journey! Silver lining and all that 😂

I had covid before being vaccinated. It was basically like a cold. I would have thought if you were going to be really ill you would have had a fever /extreme exhaustion by now. The worst part for me was the anxiety of it. What helped was getting an oximeter for reassurance because it’s easy to convince yourself that you feel breathless. Your readings will most likely be fine, and obviously if they’re not you will need to know.

I did think of one of these, I'm worried with my anxiety I would turn excessive with it, much like I did with my Fitbit heart tracker 🙄

Lots of us NHS workers got it pre vaccine and were fine. Remember over 99% are. I'm over 60, overweight and got a large viral dose doing aerosol generating procedure with no PPE. (At the time this was normal procedure, I'm sure someone knew we should be wearing masks but wasn't fed down to us!) 😤 I was very ill but still here to tell the tale and my 2 adult children, both NHS front line, actually had milder illness than the awful cold going around at the moment so try to relax and enjoy the enforced rest!

I'm trying to reassure myself by thinking lots had it before we even had a vaccine that were absolutely fine. Sadly the recovery numbers don't seem so easy to come by for reassurance. I honestly don't necessarily feel ill (at the moment) although I don't know the timescale of the illness and when certain symptoms would appear, I do know when my mil caught it she went downhill extremely quickly and was hospitalised by day 4 😢 I totally get that logic for the oximeter though, I think I may have to get one

The fear will literally affect your breathing and how things pan out. You have to let go of the fear. I don't know how old you are but Public Health England results released for the past month show in my age group only 0.6 people per 100,000 (unvaccinated) ended up hospitalised with Covid for one night or more. I found that very reassuring.

Good luck, you will be fine. Distract yourself and rest!

Kindleandacuppa · 30/10/2021 20:27

I had it in August - unvaccinated. It was a head cold with fly symptoms but not as severe as the flu in my case - completely back to normal by day 8. Honestly don't worry

Flu* although fly symptoms sounds fun

Madwife123 · 30/10/2021 20:30

Do you have any risk factors? (other than being unvaccinated). There are schemes in place for those more likely to become seriously unwell where you are admitted to a virtual ward and monitored etc.

Hey op, I’m unvaxxed- had it and it was totally fine. Like a standard cold only I’d lost my sense of smell! I worked throughout, took lemsip, ate some cough sweets… that was pretty much it! Don’t stress, I was a little nervous but I think that’s just the media portrayal which gives you the fear!
