Track and Trace - Relative coming from Europe to stay for a few weeks

Hi, I have a relative who lives in Europe coming over to visit and they are double vaccinated with Pzfier vaccine.

However I am sure I saw another thread earlier saying that if they are contacted by Track and Trace whilst they are here they have to self isolate. Apparently there was something in the Independent newspaper about this.

I need to share the link with them and I have looked through Mumsnet and done a Google check but frustratingly I cannot find anything.

Can anyone help please.

Is that not only if they've had contact with a positive case on the plane?

sovielverloren · 30/10/2021 17:35

Hi, I had a relative who was contacted and we couldn't figure out why, it was v odd. But when I was trying to get to the bottom of it, I learned that if person from abroad is a contact while here (and yes, most likely from plane), they have to isolate, which is not the case for people double vaxxed in the UK. So it is still a risk. My relative is back home now and had no more calls and the threatened visit never materialised!

Franklin12 · 30/10/2021 17:36

Yes. So they arrive on a plane and someone on that plane tests positive. They then get contacted by T and T. Do they need to isolate as they had their vaccines in Turkey?

I am not going mad am I?? I saw a thread earlier but this exact same thing!

Do you happen to have a link that I can send them re these rules please. They don’t believe me....

I think I read it too. So if you had contact you don't get out of isolation unless you had your vaccines in the UK. Think that's what it said anyway

Franklin12 · 30/10/2021 17:42

Thank you Demented! I cannot find any links and cannot find the thread either despite some advanced searches.

Hang on really?! I was vaccinated outside the UK but repatriated a couple of months ago. When DD recently tested positive here I filled in all the forms and did the PCR (negative - twice) so I stopped isolating. At no point was I asked where I got my vaccine. I don't feel at all guilty about this as I had Pfizer so am no different to the next person but also curious to see if this is written down somewhere.

Sofia73 · 30/10/2021 17:48

To add I mean I didn't quarantine. I wfh and did go to shop in a mask for essentials but didn't risk going to cafes or see family/friends even though I believed that to be allowed.

dementedpixie · 30/10/2021 17:51

I suppose it is in this bit of info:

When you do not need to self-isolate

If someone you live with has symptoms of COVID-19, or has tested positive for COVID-19, you will not need to self-isolate if any of the following apply:

  • you're fully vaccinated – this means 14 days have passed since your final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine given by the NHS
  • you're under 18 years, 6 months old
  • you're taking part or have taken part in a COVID-19 vaccine trial
  • you're not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons
sovielverloren · 30/10/2021 17:53

I thought I had found it on the gov.uk website but cannot retrace my steps, sorry. I don't know how to link threads but I had one called "What did we do wrong?" In this section where it was discussed.

Sofia73 · 30/10/2021 17:57

The Scottish link from my track and trace text it says this. So maybe I didn't break the rules here. Or at least it's not stated as clearly as on the English version.

Depends what the link under the approved vaccine bit says I suppose

Franklin12 · 30/10/2021 18:16

This really is a confusing nightmare. Can you imagine if an elderly parent comes to visit from say Italy. Double jabbed and has their return flights booked. A day after they arrive in the UK to see their grown up children/grandchildren they are pinged by T And T and told to self isolate....all their plans are shot to pieces.

Would they be stopped at the airport if they tried to fly back to Italy in say the middle of their isolation. Would the Border Force/airlines even know??

@dementedpixie

Depends what the link under the approved vaccine bit says I suppose
It just lists the names of the approved vaccine doesn't state they have to be administered in UK.

I only stumbled across awkward facet of the UK rules a day or two ago due to another thread on MN….it’s as dementedpixie pointed out upthread, in the context of T&T contact post travel being non NHS administered vaccinations don’t count…

From the NHS website on this:

“You do not need to self-isolate if any of the following apply:

you're fully vaccinated – this means 14 days have passed since your final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine given by the NHS.(my emphasis)

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/if-youre-told-to-self-isolate-by-nhs-test-and-trace-or-the-covid-19-app/

…..and given the requirement to avoid public places, transport once notified etc “doing a runner” back home would be difficult, and some/many countries have a policy of no entry if you’ve been in contact with a case in the previous X days (e.g. for France you are meant to carry a signed attestation on arrival stating you have not been in contact with a known case in the previous 14 days…)….

EasterIssland · 30/10/2021 19:25

Yeah you’re right so far this is the rule. It makes so little sense. My parents would be flying with a ffp2 and if someone tested positive 5 rows apart from them they’d have to self isolate
Yet if my husband tests positive then myself and my son can carry on as normal

Both vaccinated with az. I really hope they change it soon. Otherwise people would not be coming to the country

EasterIssland · 30/10/2021 19:26

Btw my Italian friend was contacted by t&t. She was told to self isolate only for 5 days. As they had called her on day 5 she didn’t have to isolate. Seems like it depends who you speak with you get a different story
