Anyone had some family members escape infection?

2 year old DS was the first to become infected, rest of us initially tested negative but I tested positive 4 days later. Two other DDs and DH have had two negative PCRs and consistently negative lateral flows over course of the last 12 days. Kids are all 5 and under and it is just me looking after them while DH works, so I can’t isolate from them (or them from each other) (obviously as a household we are all isolating). 5 year old DD has no symptoms at all (and all tests so far negative). 1 year old DD has had symptoms from the start, but is also consistently testing negative. Doesn’t seem likely to me that DDs will escape it, but seems odd they’ve not tested positive yet. Be interested to know if anyone else had some family members avoid it, even when isolating from each other wasn’t really feasible? And how long it took for everyone to show signs? Thanks!

Neither of our young adult sons, then aged 18 and 21, caught symptomatic Covid from us despite sharing kitchens and bathrooms and their dad being terrible at self-isolating. This was before testing though so maybe they were asymptomatic. They have never been symptomatic or tested positive at any time since despite doing all the things they have been allowed to as soon as they could (university, travelling, cinema, pubs, gigs, stand up, parties etc).

DS is the only one in my family who has had it that I know of.

That is out of 5 of my siblings and a large number of nieces and nephews, all in the same area

headinthecloudsnow · 29/10/2021 14:35

I tested positive. Both DDs and DH remained negative. No attempt to isolate from each other (they're three and 6).

bloodywhitecat · 29/10/2021 14:39

DH, I and the fosterlings (18 months and 5 months) haven't had it, nor have either of my adult children nor has my son-in-law but DH's adult DD has (the adult kids don't live with us).

I had Covid last October. Other than the couple of days I spent in hospital I didn't isolate from Dh or Dd. Dh chose to share the same bed and use the same bathroom. Dd chose to sit in the same room as me.

Neither of them caught Covid. They were tested and Dd had a negative antibody test a few months later.

This was one vaccines.

There's still time, but so far my eldest ds hasn't caught it and the rest of us have.

Ds2 (10) brought it into the house last Monday.

My mum was down by Wednesday.

Dh down on Saturday.

Me Sunday.

DD (12) yesterday.

Ds1 (13) negative throughout. I bet he goes down just as he's supposed to be going back to school....he isn't vaccinated (his choice).

bookworm14 · 29/10/2021 14:54

I had covid way back in March 2020 (later confirmed with an antibody test). Neither DH nor DD caught it from me.

Justanotherquestioner · 29/10/2021 14:55

Yep. Ds1 age 4 was positive. Then dh and ds2 age 3. All symptomatic.

Ds1 slept with me in bed every night and ds2 regularly wiped snot on me and coughed on me.

I didn't catch it. We did zero isolating and I did hands on care while dh was in bed

SchoolForScoundrels · 29/10/2021 14:56

Anecdotally I know of three families where only one family member (a school aged child in each case) has caught it and nobody else in the family has. Another family, the husband caught it but the wife didn't, despite sharing a bed.

Cas112 · 29/10/2021 14:58

All of them apart from me

Mum, Dad and three sisters didn't get it.

Partner did but 9 months after me.

GypsyWanderer · 29/10/2021 17:24

DS13 caught it 2 weeks ago, neither me, DH or his sister or 2 brothers caught it. That’s just 1 out of 6 despite sharing a bathroom and the 3 boys sharing a bedroom!

BlackInk · 29/10/2021 18:45

DS 12 finished his isolation on Monday just gone and the rest of us seem to have escaped - me and DP double vaccinated and DD 9.
DS stayed mainly in his room but shared bathroom etc. I did most of the caring for him and was sure I’d get it!!

IncessantNameChanger · 29/10/2021 18:52

Out of me, dh and four kids only two of us have covid. We are crammed into a tiny house and I had it four months before we could get the vaccine. I thought at first the kids had given it to me asymptomatically but ds then got it in August. Dsis, bil, dm all my closest friends and their kids still not had it either. I still know far more people who haven't had it than those who have.

Makes me wonder how big the pool of people who still haven't had yet is

Stuckandinamess · 29/10/2021 18:52

Both of my teens had covid, neither myself or husband caught it.

A couple of months later, I went to stay with my mum for a few days and two days into the stay she was told she had been in contact with a positive case. She had a PCR test immediately and it was duly confirmed positive 24 hours later. I didn't catch it then either.
Hoping I stay lucky!

PlugUgly1980 · 29/10/2021 18:59

DH and I tested positive 6 days ago. DS7 and DD5 tested positive today. We've made no attempt to isolate from them as with both of us being positive it wasn't an option! We've taken extra care with hand washing but have still had to make their food, bath them, cuddle when their upset, etc so we felt it inevitable.

xmasturkey · 29/10/2021 19:17

I didn't get it when Dh,ds and dd got it. This half term holiday I have been in circus, crowded museums, tube and trains. Let's see if I managed to avoid catching covid. Rest of the family had it in July so they are quite safe.

Bobholll · 29/10/2021 20:33

Yep all of mine.

I’ve just had covid. We didn’t isolate from each other at all. My 18 month, 4 year old & DH didn’t catch it.

Tinysnickers · 29/10/2021 22:43

My DS had it. I got it a couple of days later.
As far as we know DD and DH didn't get it.
They were negative on lateral flows and had no symptoms. They did a close contact PCR, but it was when immensa lab were busy churning out false negatives so we can't be 100% sure that they didn't have it asymptomatically. I think it's unlikely as their LF were all negative and DH also did a swab for thr ONS study which was negative.

Tinysnickers · 29/10/2021 22:45

We didn't isolate from each other btw. Kids are 5 and 7 so would be impossible. DH and I both double jabbed but I was home with dS when he was off isolating so not surprised I got it rather than DH who was at work all day.

WiltedDaffs · 29/10/2021 22:49

DS2 caught it at school and gave it to DH. DS1 and I didn't catch it from them despite the fact that DS2 is very cuddly and I shared a bed with DH every night.

JorisBonson · 29/10/2021 22:50

Nobody in my immediate family, including me and DH have caught it 🤞🤞

Iggly · 29/10/2021 22:53

Are you relying on LFTs to pick up subsequent infection? They may not - do other family members may get it just without symptoms and you won’t know unless you test using PCR (even that isn’t fool proof!)

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 29/10/2021 23:08

No one else in my household caught it when eldest DD bought it home from a festival in the summer and to be fair we made next to no effort to distance from her.
However... youngest DD tested positive on Wednesday and my LFT was positive this evening, so not so lucky this time!

hellcatspangle · 29/10/2021 23:12

Brother and niece had it, SIL didn't catch it despite not distancing from them.

thaegumathteth · 29/10/2021 23:17

I'm waiting for our turn but ds has covid a few weeks ago - he was sat in a car with dh and dd for 4 hours the day before and coughed directly in my face when I did his test when he was symptomatic. We all remained negative. Touch wood etc etc.
